I defy anyone to come up with someone better than Liam Neeson to play Lincoln. Speaking of Irish actors and Civil War figures, Aidan Quinn's the spitting image of Ulysses S. Grant:

Hmm... Now that I think of it...

And if Lance Henriksen were 20 years younger he could be William T. Sherman:

Come on, guys, you know there's only one answer to casting: We have to call George Lucas. We need CGI LINCOLN!

The confederate troops = the gungan army.

OMG - this thread has gotten too damn hilarious

I think Sam Waterston, if he were still that age, would be perfect for Lincoln (though he'd have to deepen his voice a bit)

As for Dicaprio playing TR.... oiy.... My first thought when I found out wa "Sheeeewt.... Robin Williams is probably gonna outshine this fool...."

And the president I really want a biopic for is Woodrow Wilson. Why? Cuz of all American presidents, I think he had it the hardest. He swore not to go to war and to stay passive for as long as he was in office - and then boom - World War I.

Come to think of it, a good biopic of our first president is long overdue.....

Othr question - what era of lincoln's life is being presented by this movie? Is this a Civil War flick? Or is it going to gloss over the war and focus only on Lincoln's personal life? It's based on a book, yes? Anyone read it?

I still think Waterson was the best Lincoln, Neeson will have to compete with his performaces really.

The book's about Lincoln's cabinet so the war will feature but not in the same way as some other biopic might feature it.

Instead of casting for generals, casting for William Seward might be a more pressing task.

I have to agree with the need for a Wilson movie. The guy was in the middle of a lot of crap. Plus, I feel that if anyone had actually listened to hiom on his post-war ideas, WW2 might not have happened, or at least would have been lighter.

Plus forget Eleanor Roosevelt or Hillary Clinton, Edith Wilson was the most significantly active first lady so far: Running the oval office after Woodrow's stroke.

Junkyard

Wait, I have the perfect Lincoln:

Can you smell the reconstruction the Rock is cooking?

That would make him the perfect Grant. Lincoln was sort of "deconstructing" by the time Reconstruction began

Tyrant

I thought we'd already had our bio on Lincoln. I recall some kind of made-for-TV movie about him some years ago. Or am I hallucinating again? Maybe I need my dried frog pills.

And everyone knows that the best President to Hollywood-ize would be Jefferson.  ;)
