I hope I didn't sound mean--I do NOT mean to disparage Mike's effort, as he is indeed doing a bang up job. I know it isn't easy writing these things!  All I'm saying is maybe the schedule could be eased a little to give him some more time and breathing room, and it might result in a funnier end product.  Then he will gain the loyalty of a legion of fans and will be able to hire a crack writing team, like with MST! (But I hope Mike will always remain head writer--like with MST.  :) )

This exact thing has crossed my mind too.  I love the fact that these are coming out so quickly, but I would sacrifice quantity over quality if given a choice.

But I have a theory that this is all intentional.  They're flooding the market here right off the bat to get some momentum going with the fans, and then they'll slowly back off, and release them further apart in the future.  As a business model, it makes sense.  As I'm sure you all know, I'm an expert on business, because sometimes I watch that channel that has the stocks that scroll across the bottom.

I really enjoyed this rifftrax, but was I the only one hoping that they would hum the theme to 'The Starfighters' during one of the flying scenes?

Hi guys 1st time poster, long time listener  ;D

Just bought top gun gonna watch it tonight.

I have all the Rifftrax, some are better then others but I buy them all, because I want Mike and Co. to keep making these until I die! $3 every week or so is cheap entertainment, and it's better quality then most TV shows or movies coming out.

I was hoping so too, but I didn't mind that they didn't.  Mostly because I was doing that myself.  ;)

Even though Top Gun wasn't my favorite so far, it still had great life-enhancing value, because like today, the Blue Angels are flying over where I am getting ready for airshows on the weekend, and every time they fly by I am totally imagining Mav, and Iceman and Cougar ("roar?") up there saying dippy things.  So, thanks, Mike!

It seems that I have polar opposite tastes than some of you.  I liked this one more than STV, and much more than X-Men.  XXX remains my favorite, possibly because I simply enjoy Vin Diesel crouching for an hour and a half.

I was an especial fan of the shout-out to the "Mike's Scrapbook In Which He Appears Only in Plays Requiring Him to Wear a Sailor Suit" host segment from Outlaw.  And did you catch the McCloud drop?

Never got tired of the fake nicknames ("Dishrag!  Scrumptious!")

I guess I have a special Iceman hug for this movie since I teach pilots (no, not in backseamed stockings, and no, I don't lick any of them.)  They have a hatred for Top Gun bordering on the psychotic.

Heh heh.  I've got a bartender friend for whom I'd like to screen Cocktail.  He has a big hate-on for what he calls "flair bartending" and would thoroughly appreciate Mike's skeptical comments about the bar being backed up for two hours because these guys tossed around the drink cups.  "Yeah, when you bring me my turkey sandwich, I'll thank you not to bounce it off the floor like that."

Having staunchly defended my constitutional right to avoid Tom Cruise movies - especially frrm the '80s - I had never seen Top Gun before last night's beRiffTraxed* version. The girlfriend was brave enough to dig out her old VHS copy and I blew the dust off the VCR. Having given myself a good 24 hours to mull it over all I can say is
YUCK.

Mike and Bill do a great job as always, but yeesh. Top Gun is the worst movie I've seen in a long long time. Why was this pile of excrement so popular? I am now officially and completely over my childhood obsession with fighter jets. I will never look upon an F-14 the same.

We just watched TG last nite and I hafta say that it was hands down the best RT ret -- or a close second behind RoadHouse. THe "vollyball" scene was great -- but the "Maplethorpe-directed showerroom sequence" was even funnier IMHO. We watched it with 5 friends and everyone was in tears during atleast 3 scenes. Some of us saw TG in the theaters, and others were too young to have seen it. I think those of us who were older found some parts funnier. We also wathced Crossroads and thought it was unwatchable -- even the riffin couldn't get us to the credits. I think we were just disappointed it wasn't movie about that rad guitar player...ya know the karate kid whatever his face is. I think watching alone is less fun. I'm still hoping they hit Pink Floyd's The Wall -- love that movie but seems wide open for riffin...

2.) TopGun

I thought crossroads was one of the best rifftrax. Maybe you weren't drunk enough.

Interestingly enough, everyone likes roadhouse. I think its time we deem this one the #1 first choice if your a newbie.

kodiakthejuggler

Why not start from the beginning?  ;D

Especially since Mike has a soft spot for this movie, and he'd been wanting to riff it for so long. He probably started working on it years ago!!

This one was funny, but I couldn't help but fall asleep when they got to the excessive air battles at the end. I just conked right out.

Additionally, I think the "sex scene" may have rendered me sterile. Ughhh.
A wizard did it.

My two cents. Just watched this one last night and thought it was hilarious. Right up there with Roadhouse. It's funny how opinions on episodes vary so wildly, just like with MST3K episodes. I think a lot depends on what kinds of movies you like to see mocked, what kind of mood you are in, and of course, how much beer you have consumed.

And I can't believe how utterly, horribly, devastatingly bad movies like Cocktail and Top Gun are. I avoided these movies like the plague when they first were released, but I figured since they were so popular at the time they would at lease have SOME redeeming qualities. Nope. Nothing. Just really, really, bad. I'm beginning to thing I should go into screenwriting. Clearly, talent is not a prerequisite.
