Loved it! And to think I was ostricized as a kid because I DIDN'T want to go see Top Gun. I feel vindicated, after all these years, in knowing that all I missed were sweaty half-naked men and endless, endless incomprehensible dogfight scenes. :^)

yeah i would probably give this one a 7.5/10....really good....probably a great starter rifftrax for newbies.

personally i liked X-men better but Top Gun still had some great moments.

I just checked out the first 4 chapters of my 1st check disc and its not as bad as some posters are making it out to be. I like this one better than X-men so far.

It did start off slow and bland. It didn't pick up for me until the Volleyball scene. After that it was pretty good. Yes there were a little more "dead air" from Mike and Bill. But it wasn't too bad.

I would give it a 3.5/5

I'll do a slightly more detailed review on my page later today...and I do mean 'slightly'

This was tough for me, but I don't blame Mike and Bill. They were entertaining as always. I just couldn't take the movie.

Tony Scott isn't a bad director and for the most part it's a comeptently made movie. But as with Cocktail, I have trouble watching Tom Cruise playing a smug, shallow hotshot for more than forty seconds. He is completely unsympathetic, and as a result I find myself completely bored with the movie.

kodiakthejuggler

Oh man, that was stupendous!!!

Though I couldn't help but think of the movie Hot Shots while watching!

I thought Bill was much more involved this time around, and there were some classic lines in this Riff! Thanks Mike and Bill for Riffing the hell out of the crappy soundtrack! All the jokes about Kenny Loggins, and that crummy lovesong that always played while L. Ron Cruise and Gelly McKillis were in a scene together...

I'm adding this Riff to my top 5!

Tarantulas

It was good...  but ST:V and X-Men are still king.

Tdizzle i am glad we can agree on atleast one thing and that is X-men which was a AWESOME rifftrax.

8 out of 10. A few too many quiet stretches throughout but otherwise a perfect Rifftrax. I do hope it's a while before they do another Tom Cruise flick, though. There's only so much of that big toothed goofy grin I can take.

The only good part of Top Gun was the soundtrack, but what was with the repeated songplay? Is that a feature for 80s era movies I've mercifully forgotten?

Wow, pretty mixed reviews--both extremes.  I agree with people who say it was not that great.  It was entertaining to watch, but considering the hilarity of many MST episodes (spare me the "this is not MST" lectures, please, we're allowed to compare the two), it should have been better. I agree that there were a number of times when you were thinking there needed to be riffs but there was silence.  And a line like "woo-woo Indian or dot-head Indian" is pretty forced.  There were a couple hilarious lines, like "It looks like he's trying to feed her a worm."  But overall, I'm thinking, maybe it would be good to sacrifice a little quantity in favor of quality.  I'd be happy to see a new rifftrax every other week, or every few weeks, but have them be MST-level funny.  The movies DO have it coming, but maybe they just need to take more time to fill in the blank spots, and brush up the so-so jokes.

Tarantulas

Keeping in mind that its a writing team of one, and the time to production is a bit quicker than MST...

I think that Mike is doing a bang up job all things considered.

Writing team of one AS FAR AS WE KNOW! I'd like a behind the scenes glimpse of Rifftrax sometime but I doubt I'll get it for a while. :^)

I just hated the movie like I hate hell, all Montegues, and death, (is that the line from Romeo and Juliet?  I gotta bone up on my Shakespear...)  Anyway, I think "Manos: The Hands of Fate" was a better movie.

But, the riffs were fine, I agree with Tarantulas, tho, STV and X-men are still king.  (Although I put "Road House" right up there!)
Hi!  I'm Randy and I'm a Riffaholic...

I hope I didn't sound mean--I do NOT mean to disparage Mike's effort, as he is indeed doing a bang up job. I know it isn't easy writing these things!  All I'm saying is maybe the schedule could be eased a little to give him some more time and breathing room, and it might result in a funnier end product.  Then he will gain the loyalty of a legion of fans and will be able to hire a crack writing team, like with MST! (But I hope Mike will always remain head writer--like with MST.  :) )
