Tripe

Well they'll buy horribly distendend people (honestly do some of the artist have any experience of an anatomy class?) with superpowers so it might be worth a go.

Right, but those were based on actual people. Comic writers are not encouraged to go up to people and say, "We at Marvel comics want to make our superheroes look more plain and average, and you fit the bill. Would you mind getting into this spandex so we can make a few sketches?"
They also aren't encouraged to trace expressions and poses from pre-existing media, but that happens anyway.

Really? Someone should tell Greg Land:

Makes me wonder where he gets his patented "Greg Land Pornface:"

Actually, the name kinda says it all, doesn't it?

I'm going to guess that  her left arm was slightly more extended when he originally drew that.

On a side note, while the FF movie was no masterpiece, I would like to submit my thanks to Marvel for not basing the movie on the Ultimate FF.
Victor Van Damme, the FF as a bunch of kids, an even more thrown together origin, the list goes on.

Even Dick Giordano did it in the 80's.  And he was Editor in Chief of DC.  Yipes.  (Haha, or should that be 'swipes')

That one on the bottom, Jean Grey? Excellent stuff do his women ever not have gapping maws?

Junkyard

They do close their mouths to grin suggestively.

On a complete tangent, I met Dick Giordano a couple months back. Nice guy. Bit I did find it a crushing irony (of the unfunny kind) that one of the great icons of comic illustration is slowly going deaf.

At least he'll still be able to draw and read comics. I can't imagine how hard it would be for an artist to go blind.

Junkyard

That's kind of what I was wondering. All together, an illustartor going deaf isn't as tragic or ironic as a musician going deaf.

When Frank Frazetta couldn't use his right hand he just taught himself to use the left one.  Not that it was that easy, like "ok brain, let's become ambidextrious" but I'm sure it was pretty damn grueling.
