FINE

Darth Geek

So...this was all because God wanted that old lady dead, then. And He had to try several times to do it, killing a whole lot of other people to.

The Font machine is the best invention so far.

The bookie looks like danny from time travellers.  hah yes they riff it.

They aren't putting much effort into playing those accordians

Nothing at all, nothing at all....

Why do they keep switching to Nepture? Don't know but I wish they would stay there!

Hah they just recited the imdb description for the MASH segment.

I think they forgot to add jokes to this song.  - From Felicia's biography she loved her diary.

This avalanche has more range than Mia Farrow. Yeah why do you think it got top billing?

Can I borrow the bowl you used to cut your hair?

Yeah I thought it sounded like Joe Don Baker too.

Apparently no one noticed the avalanche until it hits them.

I think your fitbit is broken...

And the actor for this scene didn't show up

Just pretend you're hugging anderson cooper.

I wonder how much they edited for the commercial sign joke.

He dropped in slow-mo and they still couldn't catch him

I've got my photography rope!

Err, how long was that taxi going to wait for her?

BathTub

I guess Jonah forgot all about the recording liquid?

This one was boring before the avalanche but great afterwards, so it's kind of average overall.

Iron Curtain

QuoteYeah, but why was it so squeaky and high pitched? It was weird.

Um, because that's Baron Vaughn's natural register?

In any event, I'm sorry you don't feel like the show is "back" per se. I thought there were stinkers in the original run. Seriously, out of all the episodes of Season 11 I've seen, I'd rather watch any of them over "The Starfighters", "Mighty Jack", or "Radar Secret Service". But that's just me.

This is very true. The riffing is definitely consistently better than MST3k's worst episodes. I'd say it's been better than about half of the original run.

Well I think the problem is that it's kinda hard to get going if you've been off the air for eighteen and a half years. I know we're in the rifftrax forum, but rifftrax doesn't have silhouettes, host segments, Mads, interstitial music (except in live shows), a plotline or even characters. Rifftrax is riffing distilled to its purest essence. Meanwhile, MST3K has all of that other stuff and it hasn't been done since 1999! Like I said, it's like turning on a faucet that hasn't been running for two decades! Granted, I have yet to see any episodes I liked as much as "Pod People", "The Final Sacrifice", or "Santa Claus" (to name three), but with a brand new cast and new format for Netflix, I think it's fair to say I don't think many people put Season 1 episodes on the top of their list either.

Um...was Mia Farrow supposed to be sexy? Because she just kinda looked sickly in this movie.

She did look tired, maybe that's what the director told her to look like?

On the Wikipedia page the director is quoted as saying the budget was cut and they were under a lot of pressure to finish ahead of schedule, so that might explain the bad directing and tired looking actors.

I'm going to guess Mia didn't  want to be there but needed money for her fifteen children. She was soon to divorce Previn so maybe her marriage was "feeling different" and she was under a lot of stress. She's always creeped me out for some reason though her mother was so lovely as Jane.

This was a really funny ep. The riffing was well-timed in delivery and there were some great riffs. So much better than the first three eps. Didn't seem too fast at all. I'm happy to say I watched the first half of starcrash and it also well-riffed.

It's weird watching host segs with songs that are lip-synced. Well, at least they're not auto-tuning like the kids. I thought Kinga's duet was pretty good all the same. A Mad with vulnerability! They haven't really developed the relationship between her and Frank Jr yet. They seem on pretty equal terms but a rehash of Clay and Frank's weirdly kinky relationship would be, well, a rehash.
Servo needs to up his energy. He's good so I'm not sure why he's holding back.

I really liked this one!

And yeah, the interesting 'send the movie' guy...

Nope, guess again....  (or watch the credits at the end...)

WhyDontTheyLook

This was (for me) a nice rebound to the 'meh' of the previous episode.  Enjoyed the riffing for the most part, and the use of drone silhouettes to cover up someone's naughty bits.  They did miss some opportunities to reference Robert Forster's storied career (unless they did and I just missed them).

At this point (4 episodes in), the use of green screen in place of real sets is starting to bug me.  I understand why NPH's character didn't actually appear in the same shot with Kinga (it wouldn't have worked with the setup for their song), but it did make me miss the days of people stumbling in from the entrance to Deep 13.

I also belatedly realized that, because of this, there's no more hexfield viewscreen, and that bugs me more than anything else.

Yeah, the greenscreen thing is bugging me too. We know they have a Moon 13 set, we see it in the theme song and at the end when they are putting the cylinders in the holes at the end of the episodes. But the lack of set for Kinga and Max to interact with is not helping.

Um I think you're mistaken. Kinga and Max are always on a real set. They don't interact with it much because it's not very deep, but it's not green screen.

Whydonttheylook was saying that the guest stars like Seinfeld and NPH are on a green screen, which is probably true. But that's just because it would be too expensive to schedule time for them to come to the set. Instead they can send a green screen and a small crew to wherever they are for cheap.  That's just a guess, but it's an educated one.

<checks credits on a couple episodes just to be sure> Wow... would not have guessed from that voice!
Yeah, its funny, Joel initially stated he didn't even want to do a cameo but now he's in every episode.
