oh - another thing about ID4 I liked --

Will Smith knocks out an alien that's still wearing its bio-suit with ONE punch baby! ONE

Hey, those aliens are complete wussies. That's why their technology kicks ass: they're too weak to. Plus they squeal like stuck pigs.

ID4 was a harmless summer action flick. I never understood how it could possibly excite anykind of animosity. If you didn't know what you were getting into when you walked into the theater... well, that's hardly the movies fault.

Well, my viewpoint is that whether I find a movie to be good or bad usually doesn't have a direct relation on it's entertainment value. My main example would be Commando. It's a horrid movie by just about any critical standard, but it's a damn entertaining watch.

I like you, Nunyerbiz; you're a funny guy. That's why I'm going to kill you last.

gbeenie, remember when I said I would quote you last?

I lied.

Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

What's the point of delivering a one-liner, if you're just going to deliver another one two seconds later?  It dilutes the, ahem, punch of it.

I'll say of "Independence Day" what I thought of it then:  A B-movie on an A+ budget.  Fun, but you could almost fill a book nitpicking it.  I eagerly await the day this movie catches Mike's eye.

I'll agree with that assessment of ID4... But I think the movie deserves a lot more respect than it gets. When it basically comes out and says... "Go ahead dorks... nitpick away. Not only are you missing the point, but we're just gonna ignore you and have fun doing our thing."... I mean, I wish more movies were like that... or that people were less critical of disposable 'pulp' movies.

ANY Godzilla movie! The worse, the better! :^)

Speaking of aliens on earth, am I a little touched for liking 'Coneheads!' the movie?  On paper it just looks like it should suck on a cosmic scale, but I found it laugh-out-loud funny.

I'm not familiar with that expression?
It's a good sign of character that you can laugh at comedies...
don't really understand why coneheads would be considered a bad movie, it was a very good comedy in my opinion

Must be a UK expression, to be a little 'touched' in the head (by God, presumably to make you 'special')

What I mean is that the movie is far from subtle in premise (more Munsters than Addams Family), is based on nothing more than a Saturday Night Live sketch with a shedload of sketch comics doing the acting.  You'd think it would suck, but I lapped it up.

Well, at least Coneheads was from the time when SNL movies had to have more of a concept than "Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan act like idiots for an hour and a half," or Molly Shannon acts like an idiot for an hour and a half" or "Tim meadows acts like..." well, I think you get my point.

Nunyerbiz

Thanks for joggin my memory Sharky...

I actually kinda enjoyed "The Ladies Man" and "Stuart Saves His Family" from the long line of SNL feature film failures.
