Shang-Chi is going to be a particularly hard-sell for me. The martial arts wing of the Marvel universe has always bored me to tears (Who needs martial artists when you have SUPERHEROES?) but Marvel Studios has done nothing but delight me thus far. I'll be there in the theater (or virtual equivalent) opening weekend, because I'm sure not gonna miss out.

I'm with you, Pak. It does look like they are putting some fantasy elements into this, particularly if The Mandarin has his ten magic rings. But yeah, martial arts aren't really that interesting in the comics.
But I also had doubts about Hawkeye and Black Widow being in the Avengers for similar reasons, and I was very hesitant about Guardians of the Galaxy until the trailer. And Marvel has proved me wrong every time. So I am all in.

I agree.  Though with the comics, I was drawn in by the Starlin and Gulacy artwork, I have NO memory of any of the stories told in the series.

The thing I've been most hesitant about for this film is the Mandarin's magic rings - we JUST got done with a villain who had multiple magic STONES.  To now go to a character that has mini-versions of some of them?  Seems an iffy proposition for the general public, i.e. "Marvel's run out of ideas: they're doing yet another set of magical items that play with their environment at the guidance of the wearer!"

Those of us who collected the comics know that the rings preceded the stones by about a decade.  But just like a Sub-Mariner film will now be compared to Aquaman because Aquaman made it to film first (despite Sub-Mariner being created about two years before Aquaman), the larger public doesn't care.

I can see that being an issue. I think the important thing will have to be The Mandarin's personality and motivations. The rings, like the stones, are just sources of power that let the bearer do pretty much whatever he wants. So how he uses them will be important. The MCU has been vary good so far with doing creative and varied fight scenes.

The MODOK trailer looks pretty good. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I'm looking forward to it! It'll be a nice filler while I wait for Loki

Edward J Grug III

Russell Crowe is apparently playing Zeus in Thor: Love And Thunder

This is huge because

I still want Patton Oswalt to play live action MODOK in one of the movies. Come on Sam Raimi, you have all these other villain cameos, we can't get one shot of a multiverse with MODOK?!

Falcon and the Winter Soldier was much deeper and more emotional than I expected, loved it.

Also I'm *SO* glad I didn't read any comment sections about it, I can only imagine the shitty white guy reactions

Yes, it was exceptional.  Disney/Marvel didn't shy away from difficult ideas - whether on personal roles, or how one reacts to maltreatment, or the massive disparities in how people are able to live their lives in this country.  Absolutely beautifully done.

Sadly, I DID read some comments (on Disney+'s Facebook page posts on it).  As anticipated, those who spouted thinly-veiled racism were clearly ignorant people (poor sentence construction, if they even HAD full sentences, poor spelling, inability to read or comment on what others actually said, etc.).  What did it provide me with?  Anger?  No... those brainwashed (or bullied by their own parents) into believing those things often can't be reached by logic.  So there was no point in responding to them.  And it has helped me feel more compassion for their problems in living.  [Interestingly, just now realizing that coincides with what Sam said in the finale.]  Of course, if they were doing that shit directly to someone in front of me, I'd do something to intervene... but this helped me in accepting that I can't address every damaged person on the internet whose opinions are twisted.

Oh, some awesome news?  Apparently announced the same day as the finale dropped, there will be a Captain America 4 film!  Presumably with Sam as Cap.  :highfive:

That raises an interesting question. Now that we're here, what makes a Captain America movie a Movie instead of a Season 2? The line is getting so blurry now.
