and a naked Bond sitting on a chair with a hole in the seat gets whacked in his double 0's with a giant rope.
When I saw that in the theater, I turned to my friend and said, "What happened to the good old shark tank?"

The nice thing about that scene is that you know it hurts. Most of the deadly torture devices in the old Bond movies don't create any tension because you know Bond's not gonna die. Goldfinger's laser is never going to slice 007 in half. Similarly, you know LeChiffre won't kill Bond, but at least James isn't just sitting there smugly waiting for the inevitable escape - he's hurting.

QuoteCasino Royale isn't perfect, but it did for the Bond franchise what Batman Begins has done - rescue a beloved character from a series of catastrophically ill-conceived movies. That said, riff away!

so true

Wait, you guys liked Batman Begins? I'm thoroughly disillusioned!

For what its worth, I thought they were both very average.

And the audience hurt with him.

At least the male audience. What with our parts being on the outside.

I lack a Y-chromosome, and therefore the parts necessary to hurt, but I still felt the sympathy pangs.

Quicksilver

I've gotten to the acceptance stage for this rifftrax, however no amount of explanation can prepare me for the length of this movie again. It went by pretty quick, in normal viewing, wonder how time will pass with the riff. On star wars episode one, I had to take an intermission and make it a two day event.
The Ood: The Beast and his armies will rise from the pit to make war against God.
Rose: I'm sorry?
The Ood: Apologies. I said: I hope you enjoy your meal.

Casino Royale is next, REALLY!!

Die another day would have been the better choice, that's easily the most rfiffable.

Yes, this Bond Film is made by EON Productions, just like the previous 20 'Official' Bond Movies were as well.

No, it is not named after Woody Allen's spoof 'Casiono Royale'

It is named after Ian Flemming's first ever Bond Novel 'Casino Royale' and follows the storyline of said novel, albeit in a Modern Day setting and is a complete reboot of the Bond Franchise, allowing us to see Bond become the suave, witty, cold hearted bastard he was in the previous 20 films.

Don't believe me about the Cold Hearted bit? Then check out 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and watch for the scene when Roger Moore's Bond is about to make love to another woman, only for her to spot a man with a gun, so she screams out 'NO!.'

And what does Bond do?

Why, he gallantly chucks her in front of him as a human shield to protect himself from the would-be assassin and then dumps her lifeless corpse on the bed and leaves her there.

And then later on, for no apparent reason whatsoever, he decides to put a nearby 'Out of Order' sign on another corpse.

See, that's what I'm talking about: gross!!   I suppose the out of order sign was supposed to be hilarious, but it's really too gross and sadistic. That's the kind of crap I hate and can't tolerate watching very well, even with riffing. I was even a little too grossed out in the scene in XXX where the scientists get gassed inside the glass...thingy, and the icky nihilists or anarchists or whatever they were stand outside and mock them. Mike had a hilarious line in that scene, like "Where can I get me one of them death-o-meters?"  But even so, it grossed me out a bit, and Bond is potentially much grosser than XXX.  But mostly what grosses me out about Bond is all the bizarre deaths, like people swallowing compressed air pellets and then exploding and whatnot, but it's sounding like Casino Royale doesn't really follow that Bond pattern, so that's a relief. I'll probably watch it, but be ready to duck under a blanket if I start to get queasy!

Quote from: Sharktopus on April 25, 2007, 01:42:36 AMThe god-awful spoof

The 1967 spoof is excellent - great classic comedy. What's not to like about it? And it was clearly one of the inspirations for Austin Powers. 8)

The reason they did a spoof was that the producers thought they had the rights to the book, but, as it turned out, they only had the rights to the title. So, they did it as a comedy instead. Great film. 8)

Says the guy who thought the original Little Shop of Horrors was funny.   ;)

The Little Shop of Horrors is one of the best comedies ever made. Great Charles B. Griffith screenplay, great cast, excellent direction of Roger Corman, classic Independent film.
