Are you ready to go Beyond? Let's discuss things logically.

I thought the first one was fun and Into Darkness was better so this one being written by Pegg has me pretty excited.

It looks interesting. I just wish they would STOP BLOWING UP THE DAMN SHIP!

I've only watched Star Trek movies that have an accompanying Rifftrax, but that seems to be a long-standing tradition.

I think Search For Spock still holds up very well. I would dare say it's by far one of the best odd numbered Treks.

Oh okay. It's hard to tell without all the verbal hints and cues and such.  :)

It's pretty amazing what can happen when you get rid of the three hacks who created the last two movies and give it to people who are talented and actually care.
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

Oooh! when did you see it?

About a pretend spaceship?

Okay, I went to see it tonight and I really enjoyed it. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the series 50th anniversary. Never before has techno babble been so fun and the characters so cool and engaging.

This is the third time that they've gone to that well. It's like killing a popular character on a show. The first time, it's shocking. After a while, it's a yawn.

I saw ST:Beyond on Wednesday night, thanks to the local Alamo.  Generally I liked it, but there were things in there that I can't quite pin down but were just off enough that it kept me from considering it as a Trek movie. Some more specific thoughts, trying not to spoil.

*There's a Star Trek novel called "How Much For Just the Planet?" that ends in a pie fight. That's less of a deus ex machina than something that comes up in the last act of this film.
*There's a nice little reference to Star Trek's past in the movie- and it was nice to see it matched the old canon. I miss that canon. I miss that history, even when it was silly.
*Folks? In the modern day, we don't spend a lot of time with songs from the 1700s. I'm pretty sure that 300 years from now, they'll be spending about as much time on our music as we do with "Father and I Went Down to Camp."

I liked the movie, but I dunno. The "We're stuck down on a planet for most of the film" brings to mind, well, Insurrection. And the end of Generations. And the middle chunk of Star Trek V. Oh, sure, Star Trek III is in there too, but generally the Star Trek films that are planet based tend to not be the best films in the series. I did like it overall, but I can't help but think it could have been better. Better than the second film though.
