I feel like everyone just assumed those movies were bad and nobody ever made it to the theater to check. Maybe they were OK-ish? Probably not. _I_ don't wanna be the one to see Pixels to find out. I volunteer to be the guy to see Fantastic Four, though. :^)

I really wanted to like Pixels, because it had a 80's family adventure film feel to it, but if they had hired another screenwriter,  instead of one whose past film credits involved writing the majority of only, and I do mean only, Adam Sandler films (surprise, surprise), it could have worked out.
The problem with Pixels (aside from the fact it's Adam Sandler and not at all funny) was that other than the original setup, it's still just a very cliche "military has to get unlikely heroes to save the world" movie. It would have been better if they had subverted that, maybe by having the gamers just think they were helping when it was really the military beating the aliens.
Didn't see Pixels.  Wanted to rent it but just don't have the energy to pay a buck and a half for as bad as people say it is.

However, having been in the military, one of the things that drives me absolutely nuts with the military in movies has to be the stuff where "giant monster is missed by bumbling military firing at it."  That always drives me nuts.  That and "10mm bullet will tear up a human, but 155mm shell will do nothing to monster 15 times human size."  Ugh.  Anyway, that's my two cents.

To be fair, I haven't seen it either. I'm just going by the reviews I've seen for it, the trailers, and what clips I have seen. It's enough to get me to understand the gist, and I have no desire to see the whole thing.

I've never been in the military myself, but those things tend to bug me too. It's selective effectiveness, just to cover up bad writing.

Ha, that made me think of that episode of Buffy where there was a monster that "could not be harmed by any weapon forged", so she uses a shoulder launched rocket to blow him to bits.

Darn, now I've got to go watch that on Amazon or Netflix......
