The part with Santa apparently needing to take a break to pee while telling the story about Jack and the Beanstalk (complete with water sound effects) was pretty great too.  ;D

I liked it. Although I'm surprised they cut to the shot of them with Kevin pouring the water, filling the entire screen. Not just a small part of it. Did Jack and the Beanstalk have a bit of nudity they were cutting away from?

I thought they cut to it too soon, should have let the sound of it go for a while before showing how they were doing it.

And sure, lots of these matinee time filler for kids movies had nude scenes.....  ???  ;D

The J&TBS bit almost felt like a primer, a treatment for much longer and extensive take on the story for a larger production which never got funding for a full script so, screw it, they turned the treatment into something resembling a script and threw it in this POS.

As said, the "giant" song was pretty decent and really would have been cool to have seen a much more extensive look at the giant's "life" and interactions with Jack, instead he sits in his oversized chair, eats and dozes off long enough for Jack to steal some item.   I guess "some" kudos to the film-makers for "scaling" the items between Jack and the Giant.

But there were plot points in it that felt like they were intended to be part of a larger story. The stuff with the bean salesman, for example, felt like it was meant to be part of a larger story arc.  It was just a very bizarre insert that, like I said, felt like it was intended to be much greater but never managed to get there.

Hell, I even think the salesman's song(s) were decent.  With better sound-recording his and the giant's songs could have stood out more.

That's weird, because I watched it on the West Coast, where the "Live" version is still time-delayed, and they only showed it on the side-screen.

Ooh, I do remember one joke that was new.  When the girl shows up with the guy in the gorilla suit someone commented something along the lines "good thing Florida has a large population of domesticated beach gorillas to choose from."  I found that hilarious, because my friends and I constantly joke about Gabriel Iglesias "Killing tacos" and how there used to be herds of graceful tacos roaming the plains, dropping little plops of guac and sour cream.  I only eat free-range tacos.  Hell, you can't even FIND a rare, red-breasted Greater North Western rectal-wrecking enchilada anymore, they're nearly extinct!

The movie itself was absurd.  The plot had little to do with Santa, and even less to do with the Ice Cream Bunny.  A good portion of the movie was about Jack and the Beanstalk.  It should've been titled Santa Tells A Story About Jack And The Beanstalk.  This was one of the most poorly planned movies I've seen.  The riffing, on the other hand, was very funny.  Out of the four Rifftrax Live shows this year, this was the best riffwork our trio has done.  I also enjoyed the riffing on the three shorts before the movie.

Should have seen the one with Thumbelina in it.  That PoC went on for like twice the length of Jack and the Beanstalk, and was boring as hell.

And you know the version Rifftrax used for the VoD was edited down, right? The whole thing is longer and even more boring. There's a whole song and dance bit that was cut out entirely.

I *told* people at the theater that Jack and the Beanstalk wouldn't have the production value or the award-winning acting of Thumbelina. No one believed me... until they saw the horror for itself.

That's true. Compared to Jack and the Beanstalk, Thumbalina looked like a Fellini movie.

It made me think of the MST3K episode "San Francisco International" when we're getting yet another B-Roll shot of the dreary airport in all of its filmed 1970s, mostly brown, glory.  Tom Servo: "I wish this had been in color."

Yeah, the 70s was just the worst era for films. Except for the really high budget films, of course.

Even then: Ugh.  I can think of two exceptions:  Jaws. The movie taking place on a vacation resort island in the summer probably helps the look and color pallet of the movie but it doesn't suffer from "Umber Saturation" like most movies of the era, and I'd also say "Star Wars" doesn't suffer from over-browning things. The Sci-Fi/Future setting probably helps in this regard.

But when I think of so many other movies and TV shows of the 1970s I just think "Brown" and usually on crummy film stock.  It's common to think of an era based on the movies and such of the time, most people's idea of the 1950s is likely in black-and-white even though, obviously, it wasn't. We're just used to seeing it represented that way since most movie and TV was black-and-white in that era.  The 60s, most thought of as colorful and bright. It may have been on some level or another but not the way we see it in TV and movies from the era trying to capitalize on the more availability and affordability of color film stock and televisions.

The 70s?  Apparently the whole planet was suffering from a high-smog day, it was overcast, and everyone's vacuum cleaner trap bags burst open at once.
