Quite a few of the reviews are in... and they are looking pretty damn good.  :)

Oh thank George Washington Carver

QuoteWe previously heard that Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) will not be appearing in "Iron Man," even though director Jon Favreau has previously hinted that he would. Some witnesses even wrote from the set of the movie, confirming that Jackson was filming a few scenes. But Nick Fury was nowhere to be seen in the early screenings.

Now, Moviehole reports that "Iron Man" has been screened in Australia, with Jackson's scene showing up after the credits. Here is what the site's contact had to say:

"Sam Jackson as Nick Fury is indeed in 'Iron Man.' The final spool of the film was not screened to journos and reviewers as it only arrived in Australia yesterday ahead of premiere screenings. I saw the film a few weeks ago to prep for a Downey Jr interview, and went again last night (cos i loved it SOOOO much!) and at the end of the credits is an awesome 40 seconds or so with Stark and Nick Fury."

Another source revealed what fans will see in those 40 seconds. "At the end of the credits, Stark comes home and finds Nick Fury in his living room, staring towards the window. He then turns to tell Stark he's the not the only superhero in the world. Stark asks who he is, and Fury turns and says he's 'Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D, and I'm here to talk to you about The Avengers Initiative.'"

"Iron Man" is set to hit theaters this Friday, with early showings starting today (May 1st) at 8pm.

Sounds great, but I'm not sitting through eight minutes of credits for that. There's not even a zombie monkey in it!

Just got back from the early showing.

Impressive.

Iron Man's never been one of my favorite characters, but Marvel did a damn good job with this one. And Downey was born for this role. And they only did the "Hero pulls off his mask so he can act" trick once. This one's in the Batman Begins category of "Good comic book movies".

I didn't stay around for  the post credits sequence though. I figure it'll be on YouTube soon.

heh heh, Am I glad I waited until after the end credits! woo woo!!!  ;D

According to RottenTomatoes, Iron Man is currently the best reviewed movie of the year!  Wow.  I usually don't bother seeing movies on opening weekend anymore but I'm going to have to make an exception on this one.  I'm glad Favreau and Downey Jr. pulled it off.  Marvel tends to give their B-list heroes some pretty crappy movies.  I was sure this would end up being a joke like Ghost Rider or Daredevil.

Out of 127 reviews only 7 are negative over at rottentomatoes.com:

Impressive....most impressive.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Just got back. While it doesn't shake Spider-Man 2 from my top "favorite comic book movie" slot, it's damn good. It's good enough that, when Rifftrax gets around to riffing it, I won't buy the riff. It's that good!

Well Im sure bratpop will be in sooner or later to tell us how bad this movie is.

QuoteFantasyMoguls is reporting that "Iron Man" has earned around $5 million on Thursday and an approximate $30 million on Friday, for a total domestic take of $35 million, so far. This is a great start going into the weekend.

In the first two days of overseas release, incomplete returns indicate that the Marvel Comics' "Iron Man" has chalked up over $22 million from 35 markets.

Over two days in release, Korea has delivered $2.4 million; Singapore, $905,331; Thailand, $652,192; and Hong Kong, $533,859. While in just one day, Italy has pulled in $1.7 million and Australia, $1.1 million.
