Actually, evidence strongly indicates that most of our country's important founders were, in fact, deists.

What evidence is that? Really, I want to know - I'm not being combative.

Totally usurping the thread but who knew a movie as awful and corny as "Wicker Man" could inspire religious debate, thor worship and a discussion about PC behaviors at Christmastime/Christianity in America.

Well, it was bound to happen. I mean, who hasn't watched The Wicker Man, and exclaimed, "Jesus Christ, what an awful movie." :)

And, let's face it, how can anyone watch this movie, and still believe that a sane, orderly hand runs the universe?

Yeah, man.  I mean, Thomas Jefferson was at best an agnostic, at worst a weird alchemist.  Ben Franklin hung out with EVERYBODY!  And was a real regular at the Venusian Temples in Paris at the time, (the chicks loved him at orgies, apparently).

Our Founding Fathers were revolutionaries in more ways than one.

Here's a few to start off, until I have time to line up more:

I swear I saw a nativity on someone's lawn last Christmastime that incorporated Santa.  ::)

I've always wanted to make a moving lighted holiday display featuring Santa delivering the baby Jesus.

I have it all pictured in my head: Mary would have her feet up in candy-cane stirrups (her naughty bits covered, of course, with a tasteful red-and-green holiday throw); Santa would be kneeling in front of her, and in one continuous animatronic motion, he would pull the naked, screaming Kid out from under the throw and give Him a quick swat on his Bottom. Maybe the lambs and reindeer and whatnot could be dressed in nursing scrubs...

Or is that too much? Sometimes I don't know how to tell...

The reason people piss and moan is because whole movements are started with the goal of sterilizing Christmas because a couple of people are justifiably irritated by the acts of a few crazy zealots in a Wal-Mart checkout line.

Do you mean the ones who freak out when you say "happy holidays"?

As much as I mean the ones who freak out when you say "merry Christmas".  ::)

Well, since I've never witnessed that reaction to "Merry Christmas," not even one time ever, I continue to believe that this "War On Christmas" jazz is thoroughly cooked-up.

I will single-handedly turn this thread from a serious discussion into a string of funny Santa pics. MWAHAHAHA!

Man, any Santa who looks like he might have been "Wino Extra #4" on Sanford & Son had better have a list, 'cuz I don't trust him to remember shit about who's been naughty or nice.  :)

How about in my butt?

Apparently, Santa didn't read the list in Jesus' letter too closely, or he would have noticed Bullet Point #32 (Jesus has crazy-mad Microsoft Word skillz):

32. A bed that's not a FUCKING FOOD TROUGH.

The Ultimate Warrior just raped Santa Claus!

This is why people don't take comics seriously.

I though Elektra was why people don't take comics seriously...

It's a consequence, and argument against, free will.  Sometimes, I think it would be worth it not to have free will if it meant that "The Wicker Man" and "Elektra" never existed, and if the free will to change the original Star Wars trilogy was also removed.

When the Walmart cashier rang up my jelly beans she asked me how I would be celebrating Easter, or "Resurrection Day," as the sign said. "Oh, nothing special, really." She looked like she was about to drive a stake into my heart.

Most stores won't even sell Christmas trees anymore - they're "holiday" trees.

Yeah, but that's more politically correct ass-covering than anything else. Remember, there was also that campaign last year to get people to stop saying "Happy holidays" and "Season's greetings" instead of "Merry Christmas."

There was no "campaign last year." Retailers have been (wisely) moving away from religion-specific greeting for decades; it's just in the last two years that shallow political types cooked up this bullshit, phony-baloney "War On Christmas" nonsense to try and distract voters from the INSANE spending habits of their elected representatives. It didn't work, obviously.  :)

Actually the campaign I was referring to was to bring back "Merry Christmas." "The announcement comes a year after religious groups such as The American Family Association and The Catholic League boycotted retailers including Wal-Mart last holiday season for excluding the word "Christmas" from products sold in stores."

It might just be me growing more observant as I've gotten older, but I've noticed a distinct growth in anti-non-Christian attitudes since Allah attacked the World Trade Center.

QuoteI don't know if that's true, but if it is, it's a tragic example of large numbers of people missing the point. 9/11 was the perfect logical end product of religious faith in general; to simply write it off as "those wacky muslims" is to ignore the last two thousand years of human history.

Of course they're missing the point. That's what bigotted assholes do. And so, a bunch of overzealous homicidal non-Christians made the rest of us look bad.

Yep. I remember to discount what overzealous assholes say and do. But then I also have to discount what the ignorant jackasses who use the overzealous assholes as baselines for entire societies say and do too.

The real problem is when the overzealous bigoted assholes end up in power, whether it's here or over there. That's when you start digging the fallout shelter in the backyard.

By the way, does anyone have a shovel I could borrow?
