Quote from: 6079SmithW on April 10, 2007, 07:12:17 AMAll right, look, man. Just because you had to hear the soundtrack doesn't mean that everyone else has to experience the songs in the same painful manner

I've never heard the soundtrack to Willy Wonka. If you were paying attention, I stated that the music is godawful as a part of a film. The music of Charlie works great in the film, and I'd love to have a copy of it - and any other Elfman soundtrack - in my home. (As of yet, the only Elfman soundtrack I own is The Nightmare Before Christmas.) Clearly we have different tastes. Let's drop the subject. Toh-mae-toe, toe-mah-toh. It's just going to keep going on like this for seventy more pages if you continue to argue about it. I do not have the musical tastes of most people. If we're going to continue arguing about this, we're not going to get anywhere.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

I disagree.

Actually -- my fav song fron Willy Wonka is (I don't know the name -- will look it up in a sec...) is that "Come with me... and you'll be.... la la la.... pure imagination..."

That's a brilliant song imo ;)

Oh come on, Neil is still a star, don't start lumping him in with Kevin Arnold, what's next that kid from 'small wonder', or how about one of the kids from 'you can't do that on television'

Man, I'd love to hear what "Moose" is up to these days.

On a more related note, has anyone over at Rifftrax HQ considered a press release of some sort? Seems like the entertainment news shows/websites/magazines would be eager to know about this project..

Excellent idea, Pak!
Hi!  I'm Randy and I'm a Riffaholic...

I absolutely adore Danny Elfman's early work with Boingo, and the fact that that band didn't become a worldwide phenomenon still mystifies me.

But he doesn't do much for me as a composer.  He seems to have only one style -- carnival funhouse on meth -- and he applies it to every movie.  Admittedly, when that style is a good fit for the movie ("Beetlejuice", "Pee Wee") it works brilliantly, but I'd just like to hear the guy stretch out a little and try something different.  As it is, I suspect if you picked random tracks from a handful of his scores, I would be unable to match them to the films or, for that matter, tell them apart.

It was all those nasty habits, he was only a lad.

Once again, I'm going to cite the Batman theme. That fucker sounds more like Wagner than calliope.

Corpse Bride had a fantastic score me thought - same with Nightmare Before Christmas

I love a Nightmare Before Christmas.  Elfman's actually got a pretty good voice in the movie too.

I never cared for Oingo Boingo (much more a Husker Du, REM or Clash kind of guy), but his sound tracks are okay.

And yeah, I do hear a similarity between them, but his style just works for movies.

For the ump-teenth time, you've hit the nail on the head Steve-O.

I remember sitting in the theater when Spiderman 1 came out, and during the opening credits I said to my friend, "must be a Danny Elfman score".  Then his credit came up.  And it's not like I'm a Danny Elfman aficionado or something, it's just that his scores are so trademarked with his "sound"....I agree that they all kinda sound the same.  Elfman scores have their place, and his sound is perfect for certain material.  But overall Elfman is over-used in Hollywood.

I love how certain threads can get this far off-topic.   :)
