Proof = Scientifically substantiated evidence that god exists.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me break this down, so there is no confusion....

Scientific substantiated = That means evidence gathered using the scientific method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method)

Evidence = Anything that is used to determine or demonstrate the truth of an assertion. (this of course excludes anecdotal evidence)

Anecdotal evidence = "Well the bible / my pastor / my uncle says..." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdotal_evidence)

Exists = Is substantiated in a sense other than "I believe it to be true, so for me, it exists"

----

In the end, I already know that you can't scientifically prove that god exists, it's a faith issue.  What I'm saying is that the time you spend talking to yourself (praying) and sitting in church would be better spent doing something that improves the the world around you.  The money you waste on the church would be better spent donating to local charities, and improving the community you live in.

And before everyone goes ape-shit:

I'm not saying that religious organization don't provide charitable aid to those in need.  I'm just saying that there is a giant fucking string attached.

What if you're believing in the wrong god or not interpreting him right? would you still get points for trying?

I believe you get double bonus points if you live your life just like your "saint" neighbor that goes to church every sunday, however without going to church or believing in god. Get me. If god is so vengeful to send me to hell or wherever just because I dont have the faith, than I guess I dont really like him. Now if I'm an axe murdering psycho yeah send me there, but not for disbelief. Gonna be pretty pissed too, if I go to hell for eating shellfish or something silly, luckily if god's a jew there is no hell.

oh, I'm stupid I forgot god would be a jew and it was his son who had all these rules.

Don't forget the possibility that your fate has been preordained by god and he created you specifiably for the purpose of going to hell.

GOOD TIMES!

Well, fate is fate right, so perhaps I'm like destined for some divine purpose to go to hell and destroy satan. Either way, guess there's nothing I can do about it, luckily for me I still believe I just rot in the ground. Flames and demons wouldl be surprising to say the least, even more surprising would be waking up as a squirrel.

I'm enjoying the fact that Tarantulas used to accuse me of being rude and confrontational.

If we both go to hell, I saw we team up to take down satan.  If you bring a chain gun, I'll bring a BFG.

I'll take him down with you, now the weird part is in 50 years when were on own deathbeds and we request our grand kids go get us weapons to fight the dark lord. I merely watched a crappy movie and wanted to discuss it.

I can TOTALLY see the following could not being considered flame baiting:

"Just watched the last half of this on TV and I found it hilarious, the Monty Python's Sam Peckinpah style blood spray, the overacting, the cheezy music and sets.   Even the S&M-dream whipping thing went on so long I was laughing."

Hmm... better way to word it.

"I found the violence and overly dramatic acting in Passion a but cartoonish given serious nature of the subject matter... discuss"

You fully knew the reaction your statement would elicit.  So attempting to take the innocent role only affirms my prior statement.

I however am man enough to stand by my statements.

I believe that faith is foolish and serves about as much purpose as praying to a milk carton.  If it makes you feel better, than thats fine.  The minute you use your faith in cardboard boxes containing milk to try and create laws that effect my life, then we have a problem.  Don't be surprised when you slap my hand if I bite yours off.

we managed to do that for quite some time before it turned into this.

QuoteProof = Scientifically substantiated evidence that

we both no i cant do it.  and i of course knew you would bring up this definition merely because it cant be done.  However heres the rub, you dont no matter what you claim, use that definition for everything in life.  period. end of story cant be done.  Some things you have to take on faith.  You cant scientifically prove right now that bush is a hideous liar and lied his way into our current war, but im fairly sure youve stated things to that effect, even if you dont beleive exactly that i think your smart enough to see my point.  Why is god held to this HIGH standard and yet not everything (and some very important things) else?

Further i knew you would chuck the science qualifier into it becuase you seem to beleive that there only two things in this, blind mindless faith, and pure observable science.  I have and still do feel there is a middle ground that you miss, pure mindless reason quite separate from the empirical data around us.

I think therefore i am.

and so you figured the best way to show him that flame baiting is bad was to one up his supposed flame bainting?  Seems like some one missed a sunday school lesson... oh wait yeah :)

The conversation was going there anyway, people are just too comfortable and "nice" to say what they really feel.  Take the gloves off once in a while and actually have an opinion, it's pretty liberating to just say what's on your mind.

To the "you can't prove either" part:   Lack of evidence negates gods existence.  That's the point I'm making.  I could have brought up case studies about prayer and it's affect on patient outcomes (it has none), yet I would have heard 20 messages about how "god has a plan".  See, gods never wrong when you use anecdotal evidence to back up your beliefs!  There is no middle of the road on this issue.  You believe, or you don't.  If hell does exist, cafeteria christianity thinking like that is going send more people there than you would likely care to count.

Calling people on flame baiting with a retaliatory flame or "calling their shit" is as old as the Arpanet.  And I don't see a corollary to Sunday school there, but I guess your "joke" will have to do until actual humor can be found.

"Cogito ergo sum" is yet another philosophical statement to try and oversimplify our complex universe.  Luckily, we have science to prove that we exist.

Well, you see... the banana has three sides that perfectly fits into a human's hand and it's uhh... got it's own wrapper or something. That's some bulletproof shit right there, you damn godless heathen.

technically its older than "whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you" but its age hardly gives it any sort of validity.

which can only be done through insults?  bah, i dont agree and if thats true then itll be a mere matter of weeks before this is no better than the damned imdb boards.
