Could you hear the Riff tonight @ Godzilla?

Major disappointment in Spokane at our theater as well. Audio levels were terrible. Whenever the special effects coupled with the movie's soundtrack was at peak levels, the riff audio was completely inaudible. Three quarters of the film matches that description, so we pretty much heard zilch.  :-[
Really? Were you at the Northtown? I thought it sounded fine after the first few credits.

I didn't have any trouble with the sound in our theater.  If anything the movie was a little low, but it wasn't a problem.

Birmingham, AL: Worst soundmix of these live shows by far (and I've seen literally all of them). I'd say we could hear about 30% of the riffs. It was as if the surround speakers were reversed with the center speakers. The sound effects were the loudest, followed by movie dialogue, and then riffing as the quietest. Any time helicopters flew by or glass shattered, it was ear-piercingly loud. Extremely disappointing. Caught the "Oh hai, Johnny, I didn't know it was you" riff which may have been worth the whole experience anyway.

I went to the Nashville live show but also planned to drive to/fro four hours to see the replay. Are the sound problems so bad that it's not worth it or are the able to remix the replay to take care of them?

I'm guessing you were in Wilmington?  Looks like I picked the wrong one to go to, it was messed up in King Of Prussia.  The movie was way louder than the riffs.

Now that you mention it, where I was the high pitch stuff like glass shattering was sometimes even more painful than the low frequency sounds.   Maybe some theaters got sent the wrong equalizer settings?

I was in Manchester, CT and we also had problems hearing a lot of the Riffing; it definitely was a bit frustrating.

This was posted in the other thread, to tell fathom that the theater you were at had bad audio:

Had a whole lot of trouble hearing tonight's Riff tonight, as well as last time's presentation of Sharknado. Was wondering if it was my theater, or if other people are having similar issues.

Thank you for not calling the show an "epic fail(ure)." I hate that expression, probably because I'm old. And also because these are normal, nice humans doing the best they can.

Streaming movies live is still a relatively new idea, and shit happens.  They will work on it and make it better. But, I do understand the disappointment when the sound is bad.  That happened to one Rifftrax I attended, so I do understand how everyone feels.

They do need to fix it, but they are nice people, not failures, epic or otherwise.  So, again, thank you for being neutral in naming your topic!

I was in the live audience, so I can't speak about the sound.  But, I'll watch the replay on Tuesday. here in Memphis. I'll post about the sound after the rebroadcast.

I dunno, the balance in Sharknado seemed about right and I'm guessing it had stereo sound too.

Sharknado audio was great, in my theater.

Trust me...no one is calling anyone on the Rifftrax staff, all the way to the top, failures. Quite the contrary. When VODs first came out, there were some audio mixing issues (Abraxas comes to mind). This will get ironed out I expect, if they want to continue with this format going forward.

Thank you for that, CHFO1. I absolutely appreciate it.  :)

The sound was terrible. Very disappointed as both a Kickstarter backer and as a paying customer of the theater. I was mostly bored and almost walked out. It wasn't RiffTrax. It was Godzilla with Matthew Broderick with some guys mumbling. I believe I heard about 1/3 of the commentary and most of that was from Kevin who seemed to be shouting. Mike and Bill. Nothing unless the movie was silent.

I have an $80 audio plugin that allows me to 'duck' the movie sound when I mix their commentary with videos. They need to correctly utilize the same technology. Both Live and in their streaming videos (which generally have the same problem to a much lesser extent).

There are some thoughts about that on the "Godzilla epic fail" thread.  Some say the sound was better on the replays.   I was at the Nashville live show.  Tomorrow, I'm going to  watch it in Memphis.  I certainly hope they resolve this.  Disappointing fans is not good for business.  Even if it's not the fault of Rifftax, people won't care who's fault it is, if they can't hear. :(

From the sound of things the audio problem was on theaters' end and not on the Rifftrax end.  They more or less *have* worked out the audio issues and any ducking on their part.  Theaters, however, likely have their sound systems calibrated for showing a movie, not a movie with commentary over it.  So when you get an action movie like this, that secondary audio track is drowned out by the movie's track.  Theaters need to better calibrate their sound systems for this type of event and hopefully going forward Fanthom will put the pressure on them to do so.

It is on the individual theaters' side. But I'm surprised so many seemed to have trouble since this isn't the first time they had to deal with this.
