It was the weird glare off the screen, my eyes had trouble knowing where to focus. Because it was not backlit, and I had to have a light source, it was always there.

I'm OK with e-readers now. I still prefer books, but I get the convenience of an e-reader. I'd say I'm about 60/40 real books/ereaders at this point.  Having a tablet in the gym on the machines is way, WAY easier than dealing with a book when I want to read and do the stair machine or elliptical.

Ah yes, having to use a light with an e-reader is a pain in the ass. I can see what you mean about the glare.

Which is why I love my kindle paperwhite. It's side lit through tubes that soften the light. Much easier on the eyes than a backlit LCD. And I have the option to turn it off when in a well lit room or outdoors.

I've heard good things about the side lit screen on the paperwhite, but haven't had a reason to upgrade.  I've just never had a problem adjusting my light source position or the position of the kindle to avoid all glare...

I have a cranny.

As the unofficial Amazon representative of this forum......*ahem!*

I would just like to take a moment to address those of you that either may not like Kindles or may use alternate e-readers:

:o :speechless: I wet my pants. In fact, I wet your pants too. I'm not sure how.

My dad had one of the very early Sony e-readers, I think it was long before the kindle, or before the kindle was popular. It was ok but the benefit of the Kindle is the tie in with Amazon.com, kind of like with Ipods and Itunes.

One of these Skiff Readers might be cool if it ever comes out.

After 4 years with no news on it I kind of doubt it will ever become available.

I agree, but someone else might release something very similar.

I'd be more interested in ebook readers if I didn't think ebooks were a huge rip off.

Considering they are cheaper than normal books, I'm not quite sure where that feeling stems from.

Are you talking about the fact that technically you don't own the book?  It's not that hard to pull the text out of the files and save them on your computer if you're worried about that sort of thing.

There is a lot of go software out there for format conversions and OCR that, in the long run, create abundant amounts of content.

Agreed.

But I'm starting to feel like a shill, so I think this'll be my last kindle post.
