Got my tickets today.

First time I saw NotLD was when I borrowed the dvd from a friend at work. I guess I was about 21. I was WAY into horror flicks at that age so I ate it right up. Used to own a copy too, until almost my entire dvd collection was stolen.

Been to quite a few drive-ins. I remember trying to see Ghostbusters 2 at a drive-in, but it was sold out, so my friend and I just watched it out the back window without the sound!  ;D

Other movies I've seen at drive-ins: Jurassic Park (during it's intitial run) a handful of 80's movies I was too young to remember the titles for, Willow, Batman Begins, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (Tim Burton) & the Wedding Crashers to name a few.

Of course the appeal of drive-ins for me was always sneaking stuff in, including friends, mischevious shenanigans during the movie, watching multiple movies for the price of one, plus you can smoke and drink during the show.

My only real gripe with them is sometimes it can be hard to see the screen if it's being washed out by city lights and whatnot.

Indeed. That is why when you are watching a scary movie at a drive -in that is dug deep into the Pine Barrens, (where the Jersey Devil Lives!), it does things to your mind... is all's I'm sayin'...

See you have to see "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in a tiny car, in the middle of the pine barrens, in the full knowledge, that, if a chainsaw wielding maniac attacked your car, (there were no cell phones!), you were just going to die.

Oh, you could run. Sure. Would anyone help you? The couple having sex in the other car? No. the Minimum wage slaves in the concession stand? No. They just wanna go home.

It took balls to see these films in the old drive-ins, baby! We had no city lights! We were deep in the woods! Bigfoot coulda' come and ate our heads and no one would have noticed!

Yeah, you pussies don't know what it was like....

(Please just disregard me... I am old...)

Had a great time at the Rifftrax Live event tonight. They did an amazing job riffing this. I remember not liking the Mike solo riff a long time ago, but their second riff being better. But it's been years since I've seen that one so I don't know how it compares to this.

The movie on it's own is a huuuuuge slog for me. I get why it's a deserved classic and all. But I hate Harry Cooper so much, and he's just such a cartoon villain. The riffers were spot on in the Bill O'Reilly comparison. Harry is exactly what one of those right wing talk show host would be like in any kind of actual dire emergency where they weren't in charge. And Barbara is so annoyingly useless she bugs the crap out of me.
The whole movie (especially the end) is so dour and depressing it's like it was directed by Norman.
