QuoteThis Is Infamous has learned that the title for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film will be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, harkening back to the famous line from the Disneyland attraction. Begin speculation on how it relates to the title below!

Launched in 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl, the franchise has, in every film so far, featured Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. The most recent adventure, On Stranger Tides, also starred Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Sam Claflin and turned out more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Catch Me If You Can scribe Jeff Nathanson has provided the screenplay for the fifth installment, which will be directed by Kon-Tiki's Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is scheduled to begin production in January of 2014 for a July 15, 2015 release.

I would just like to have a MUCH SIMPLER story this time around. The third and fourth one were just overly complicated for the sake of being overly complicated.

And please make it only an hour and a half long!

Well, if it's the director of Kon-Tiki and not Gore Verbinski, we may be in luck.  I still like the last two Pirates movies (complicated plots aside, I still found them fun to watch), but though I haven't seen it, Kon-Tiki is a well-regarded film about traveling at sea, clocking in at 101 minutes.  Sounds like exactly what the franchise needs to breathe some new life into it.

And Johnny Depp can go back to playing the weird character in a part where it is expected and welcomed, so that's always nice.

I do really enjoy him as Jack Sparrow. I hope they learned their lesson from the last one not to make Jack the primary character. He works best as a reactionary character, and one that wants to stay in the background influencing things to get his way.

I actually really enjoyed the 4th. 1st and 4th. The 2nd and 3rd were miserable dreck.  Aside from convoluted plots and the Knightly/Bloom mush, their biggest downfall was Jack becoming a caricature instead of a character.  They fixed that a lot for #4....
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I thought the fifth Pirates movie was called "The Lone Ranger".

Relaxing Dragon

I found the fourth movie to be quite poor (quality wise, I think it's one of my least-favorite blockbusters in recent memory), so hopefully the next one turns it around. The first remains one of my favorite movies, and I will defend the second one more than most (the third less so, though I still like it), so it's time for this franchise to get back on ym good graces.

I liked on Stranger Tides WAY better than Dead Man's Chest and At World's End. At least it made a lot more sense and I liked the characters better.

Darth Geek

I liked Dead Man's Chest a lot. Because of all the cool creatures it added. And if you're going to pad out a movie, at least doing it with action scenes is fun. As apposed to talky scenes of characters with no loyalty backstabbing each other over and over again.

Soguru

Speaking of, I wish they would stop back-stabbing as a plot device. It's a really tired and cheap trick and it's always really annoying to me when the supposed protagonist acts like that.

It also means NOTHING when you have established that the characters have no real loyalties and are just out for themselves.
