Have you seen the mail-away studio scale falcon builds?

You mean that one that comes as a monthly subscription?  Yeah, that is insane, and something like one or two grand once you pay for all of it.  Also I'd have no place to put it, other than my big TOS enterprise I'll stick to models I can put on a bookshelf.

Fired up FreeCAD and made an OT dish that is about as much detail as my home 3D printer can do:

The hundred+ decals are taking forever to apply....

Got all the decals on the top done, and added "dirt":

I don't have any place to do spraying or set up a spray box, so everything I do is with brushes.

I though you had an airbrush on the big Enterprise?
Nope, all hand painted.  There I used 5 to 6 layers of very thinned out paint on the hull to avoid brush marks and get the color even, along with sanding.  One of the reasons it took forever to build that model.  Brushing on very thinned paint looks horrible at first but once you build up enough it can look as good as airbrushed.  You just can't do masking as easily.

Pretty much done with the Bandai Falcon, might do a few touch ups for issues I see in the photos.
I didn't add the handful of microscopic decals, if I need a 10X magnifier to put them on I'm not going to see them when the model is sitting on the shelf...

Huh, it looks like when we got likes back we lost the feature that resizes images to fit your browser window.

Bigger than I thought it would be. Is it in scale with the other Bandai SW starfighters?

Currently "my" Falcon is the FFG X-Wing version, which is about 3.5".  Really detailed, but a bit small.

I really don't know, Bandai lists it at 1:144 scale, so it should be in scale with any others listed at 1:144.

How big is this assembled kit?

Not very big, about 10 inches front to back.

That makes the paint job even more impressive.  Nice job!
