Started on more little Star Trek Ships:

The Refit Enterprise and the Reliant have decals that cover nearly every surface, going to be interesting (and most likely frustrating) to see how they go on.

Bit of a quandary if I should do the detail painting before or after the decals.  Less room for error after, but would be easier to fill into the decal boundaries after....

Finished my little Reliant, next on to the Enterprise refit.

Not super happy with how the decals went on, they were very easily broken even when using setting solutions, that combined with having to put them over molded details made the process pretty frustrating.

To dispel some of the misconceptions about head injuries you have developed from watching movies and TV, I wrote this: ...Some Information on Head Injury Effects

The decals for the refit Enterprise were even more frustrating than the ones for the Reliant, so that model looks pretty terrible close up, but not bad from a distance:

With the TOS and refit Enterprises next to each other and small enough to take in at the same time, you really can't see any common parts.  So calling the early Movie Enterprise a refit is pretty bad, it's a completely new ship.  There was a refit designed by Jefferies for the Phase II TV series, there were plans made up and there's a guy that just built a model from those plans, that ship looks like a refit of the TOS Enterprise.

Absolutely gorgeous! Great stuff. I have several small trek models that I use to play "Star Fleet Battles" it's a very complicated board game that only super-geeks play...

But your models are perfect! Beautiful!

Where did you get those kits?

The Motion Picture set:

The TOS set:

Oh, and I'm probably not even going to attempt painting the K'Tinga, all those tiny raised sections would need to be masked off somehow, and I hate tiny masking.  Also I like the D7 way more anyway, I really only wanted the Enterprise and Reliant from that kit.

Nice.  I might have to give some of those a try and see how bad I do.

The motion picture set would be pretty easy to do without paint, some sharpies for the grey and copper areas and the rest are covered by the decals.  Of the TOS set only the Romulan warbird would look OK without paint, the others not so nice.  The TOS Enterprise takes the most work to look half way good (it's an old model that has been out for decades, really needs an update).

Oh, and a pale blue sharpie for a few spots on the Reliant.

Are they the same models from that old 3 piece Enterprise set?  I used to have that years ago they are all lost now, I like that Reliant though.

From what I've read the refit might be a new mold, people have said there are differences from that 3 Enterprise set (I don't have that set), the TOS Enterprise is certainly not.  All the others are new molds.

So to answer the question only the TOS E is probably the exact same model.

Sideswipe

Good to know.  Definitely thinking about that set then.  Marty, have you ever posted any of your models on the starshipmodeler.com gallery?

Yeah, the Reliant was always my favourite fed ship. And I loved all the Birds of Prey.

Way cool. Makes me want to watch "The Wrath of Khan" again...
