Is this the first movie to have a literal...

...Deus Ex Machina?

Let's see, a planet run by a pop music conglomerate, or a planet infested by hippies. Tough call.

RockSiren

With you on this one...I thought about it, and I think I would prefer the Satan planet in this instance.

Bob

A planet without beer?   I'll skip on hippie world.

Sigh.... Is this a "death is not an option" sort of question? Because, really, I'm not sure EITHER choice is good.

I guess I'll stay on the dystopia planet but maybe move to Canada or something.

i dont think moving to canada wont do any good

RockSiren

Yeah, weren't those two doofuses FROM Canada?  But you know, I thought about her "America/Speed" song and thought it was weird that it was filmed in Germany and had almost no American actors in it...and her character was Canadian.

The funny thing is when they first introduced the hippies it looked like they were passing around a reefer. Dr. Carroll would not approve.

Lembach

It's a very tough call. On one hand, I hate dirty hippies and all their tofu peace and love crap. On the other, the BIM dystopia has the mandatory "drop everything and workout" thing.

Beyond the Riff

The hippie cave re-uses the hell dream-sequence set. Which might be ironic if it weren't for the fact it's just a cheap-ass movie.

Rabbi Hi-Keeba

I'd rather live on a planet with rock music and sex. There's an implication that if you want to be a brainwashed BIMbot, you can get free speed so that your workout goes faster and easier.

Darth Geek

I would hardly consider the shitty music the BIM bands play to be a good example of rock music to make it worth staying.

And the thing to me about the hippies at the end is that THEY LITERALLY DO NOTHING in the movie. Suddenly there is a group of them, we learn absolutely nothing about that particular society or what they do. So everything you take away from that is based on your initial perceptions of the steretypical hippie. They aren't shown as good, bad, or anything. The movie just kind of assumes that you are going to this as good. And really, stereotypical hippies have a lot in common with the BIM corporation given both of them are so encouraging of drug use and wild sex.

Trekker4747

I mean, if these are you usual, stereotypical, 1970s hippies there's a good chance their planet is going to quickly smell like BO and hemp.  No thanks, I'd rather live in a place that has proper grooming habits, where people shave and with a distinct lack of sandals/flip-flops.  Sure, the Bim planet might be... A bit fascist? Or something? I'm really not sure what it was.  It's a law that I have to wear some stupid triangle sticker on my person or risk an annoy fine?  Great, I'll take that over a place constantly filled with bongo music and acoustic guitar.

Were supposed to "like" the hippies only by virtue of the fact that they're not the fascist 1984-like people. But for all we know they could be complete asshats with even worse ideas.

Rabbi Hi-Keeba

I believe you mean the fascist 19***9***4 people (SNERK!!)

RockSiren

The best thing about the hippies is...they have no profession.  Sitting in the park seems to be all they do!

I imagine that "The BIM Hour" is what most Republicans think how Michelle Obama's anti-obesity campaign will work.
