Howdy.
I am a huge MST3K Fan, and I recently discovered Rifftrax.
What would be a good one to start off buying?  I'm not too sure on the whole synchro thing, and I'd rather buy an inexpensive one to start.
Any advice is appreciated.
Warmly,

BTW, I had a hard time posting to this forum.  I am registered, but they still asked me to fill out a code and answer 2 questions...one of the questions was easy (Satelite of _____), but the other one was about a vampire from twilight; something I've never watched and know nothing about...had to google it--just to post.  Maybe ease up on the security a little bit guys.  I love Mike and the gang, but I'm not into vampires.  :)

It's not too hard to research, not to worry.

I suggest starting with some shorts. They are only 99 cents, so they are cheaper, and they are VODs, so no syncing necessary.

As for riffs, most of them are 3.99, except for a few early ones with one or two riffers.

Iriffs are cheaper than Rifftrax, and they usually have the same syncing technique. Quiptracks, Hor-Riff-ic Productions, Cinester Theater and RoninFox are all guaranteed great groups, as funny as Rifftrax themselves often.

Once you're on here a while you'll know all about the Twilight vamps.

Get a shorts DVD start with the first one that includes Shake hands with danger.  I think theres about 9 on the DVD for about 10 bucks forgot just how much.  Its how I started gonna try a vod soon.

2 hilarious shorts I'd recommend starting with are "Drugs are like that" and "Setting up a Room".  The latter is a long short, that's why it's 2 bucks instead of one.

Also, I recommend 'One Got Fat'. Your therapist will thank me.

The Twilight series is some of their best work! If money and having to sync is your concern then the shorts are your best bet.  Drugs are Like That, any of the At Your Fingertips shorts, One Got Fat are great ones to start with.

I'd suggest starting with Cinester Theater (Batman Returns, Total Recall) and Drawback Productions (Die Hard 2, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom).

The shorts suggestion is quite good. It's unlikely that Mike and co's riffing has changed so much that you won't enjoy the riffs, but hey. Better safe than sorry. And I'd recommend Moose Baby or Seat Belts: A Life Saving Habit myself.

For full length riffs, if you go with a mp3 file that you manually need to synch, it's best to start off with something you own but wouldn't mind having some fun made of it. Needless to say, I don't know what you own, but the Star Wars films or the Harry Potter stuff is often a good choice. If you want to throw caution to the wind and don't mind buying or renting something, you might want tot try the riffs for The Day After Tomorrow, the previously mentioned Twilight or Birdemic. Keep in mind though that the latter film is as bad as anything ever shown on MST3k, and I don't say that lightly.

If you don't want to deal with the synching at all and want something longer than a short, try the VODs. Buffalo Rider, McBain, The Guy from Harlem, Cool As Ice and Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny are good choices there. And once again, I will warn you- the Ice Cream Bunny is also as bad as anything ever shown on MST3k. Yes, even Manos or Monster A Go-Go. It is available as a DVD though (and a used copy is pretty cheap on Amazon right now.)
