Okay, found the WARM2 option buried somewhere else.  Still cannot find the mystery of Dejudder.........maybe it is a vampire and is trying to stay hidden from me.

I really notice is how the "Picture Mode" can really change how bright everything is.  The movie one (that most places recommend for all) has things sharper looking and darker, while the Dynamic REALLY brightens the colors.  I do no think you should ever watch things set to that.......except for may for old people or store set ups.  Seems almost too bright.

And darned if I could see where the "Cinema Smoothing" option was to turn that off.

The option is "greyed out" on my Samsung. The only way to change it is to be currently playing something that is 1080p/24p. At least that's what I've read, haven't actually tested it yet.

Actually they put a lot of those extra bright options on there to make the TV stand out when displayed in a showroom.

The Samsung should have an e-manual built in, I know on mine for some options the only way I could find info on how to get into some of the more advanced options was to look through the e-manual (even that wasn't real clear, but there was usually a "go to" or "set now" option in the e-manual that got me there.

And yeah, I think what Space 2.0 said is true, you sometimes have to be in the right "mode" to set some of the options.  So at the very least connected to the Blu-Ray player with it sending out 24p.

Maybe I'll just leave it set on there and see if I notice it or not.  I might be overthinking all this stuff.

But it really is great so far..........the Avengers was great.   I could actually see the 5 o'clock shadow on some people!

Yeah, you wouldn't think going from 720p to 1080p would be much, but there is extra "stuff" you tend to notice.

Biggest one I've noticed is the invisible monster attacking the electric fence in Forbidden Planet, all the extra fine lines in the hand drawn animation make it way more menacing and scary.

Bob

Oh, I have that on DVD too.....thanks for the tip.

And my blu-ray Universal Horror DVDs will get a full workout this weekend.   And the 3d one on there too!

Have you tried out the 3D much?  I've put a lot of reviews of discs in the 3D thread.

The 3D on the old movies is better than a lot of the new ones, I got the single disk Creature From the Black Lagoon from Amazon UK, the other really good old one is Dial M For Murder.

Bob

Only 3D I've seen so far is the espn 3d sports channel......had a 2012 college football game on.

Not sure I will really want to watch TV with glasses on, but small bits of it might be fun.   We shall see.

I only do it for movies, so not that often, just changed the battery for the first time in my glasses after almost 2 years of use.

The 2D to 3D conversion for regular stuff is real hit or miss, needs just the right scene for it to work.  I haven't used it since testing it out the first week.

Be warned.  After my TV went wonky:

I had to google what they hell this was.  Apparently, this is something that happens to LED tv in general.  Apparently, the laser ribbon that attaches to the bottom of the display panel can short out, which is exactly what is going on here.  This is something that can happen to ALL LCD and LED TVs.  Know that this is a manufactuer defect, and in most cases, should be eligible for replacement.

Thankfully, VIZIO was more than helpful on getting this taken care of, but i had only purchased this only a month ago.  If i wasn't, i'd be up shit's creek.  This is basically a warning:  Don't hesitate to get a extended warranty, and if at all possible, to get one directly from the manufactuer, as that eliminates less middle men you'll will have to deal with.  Also, keep your receipt, and get it scanned.

It was pretty cheap, so I got the 4 year plan on the plasma.   And all my receipts for major things go in the file cabinet in the office.

It's actually pretty amazing these flat panels hold up as well as they do.  You've got a maze of microscopic circuitry covering the entire surface, all connected around the edges.  There are thousands of connections to the pixels.  Remember each pixel has a red, green, and blue component.  Thankfully it can be done in a grid and the pixels multiplexed, so you don't need a separate connection to each pixel.  Then you have the various lighting systems that need to produce even illumination over the entire surface.  The way they get the light from the sides is pretty crazy, all these thin plastic light guides.  I've taken apart some old laptop displays, and all the light came from one tiny fluorescent tube along one side.  And think about plasma, they need high voltage along a lot of that microscopic circuitry covering the display to create the plasma in each cell (although I think they do the high voltage from the back, so they don't need to use transparent "wires").

That picture above looks like one of the LEDs along the bottom has gone out, all the picture info seems to be there but it's not getting enough light in that one zone.
