Doctor Who?

So you think it is wrong to not want to live under a dictator?

I'd rather die then be a slave.

I'm pretty sure the dude is supposed to be Bowie, standing next to Mick Jagger.

But the other hint (according to the internet) is a file called "BOYS" on Ozy's computer.

I think the leap to dictator is pretty extreme.

If you lived in this world, you wouldn't know that anything had been engineered (unless Rorschach's journal gains traction, but I suspect it would become a conspiracy theory rather than an accepted fact) and would be suddenly living in a peaceful world. The only ones that have to live with any burden are the surviving Watchmen.

But that's fine because it's meant to be suggested rather than confirmed (I believe was the complaint)

Doctor Who?

Only one person forced his choice on the world and that was Ozzy.

He is going to have to keep killing and lieing to keep the world in check.

Also and the end of the book and the movie he has had to take away free speech.

he will end up having to kill just as many people to keep his secret.

Also who elected him and who gets to take power from him.

He has made himself dictator of the world.

If he were so high and mighty he would have been in New York and died with it.

Hmm...I didn't see any hint that Ozy wanted to literally rule the world.

But yeah, slavery would suck.

I just watched the credits:

http://www.businessinsider.com/watchmen-opening-credits-are-on-the-internet-forever-now-clip-2009-3

and I'm afraid that it's a HINT at best.

He is at Studio 54 and after having his photo taken he shakes a dudes hand.

There is no way that's a confirmation, it's still as hinted at as in the book.

The Studio54 reference doesn't mean a whole lot. But there's also a file folder marked "Boys" on Ozy's desktop. It could be porn. It could be records of Ozy's illegitimate kids It could be Ozy channelling Alexander. It could be just Snyder messing around with people's minds. I lean towards the latter.

This is one of the things that drives me nuts over the interwebs. I've been reading various forums and a week ago, they were commenting "I hope that Snyder makes a reference to the rumors of Ozy's sexuality" and then after the film came out these same people were complaining that Snyder dared to imply that he was gay. You just can't win.

One reason why I like the movie ending is I believe he won't have to keep killing, the threat of Dr Manhattan watching over them will (in theory) keep the world in check.

I am not saying that Ozzy did the right thing, or that he is a hero, but that his actions come from a heroic place.

I also don't think he is a dictator in the slightest, just because he changed the course of events. He could very well have come up with a plot to literally take control of the Earth, but he doesn't he just nudges the direction it's taking.

I never got that he was supposed to be gay in the book. I figured, "Eh, all superheroes dress like that."

Guess I wasn't thinking about it or whatever. Don't see that it matters at all for the story, really.

I deliberately didn't reread it before seeing the film, but I believe Rorschach mentions it, but Rorschach is maybe just crazy, so it's not definite.

Well in the book the only evidence was an entry in Rorschach's journal and he wasn't sure so the movie did go farther then the book.

Relaxing Dragon

I think the opening credits thing is, at most, a hint. Plus, I don't recall Rorschach's "Possibly a homosexual?" line even being in the movie. Combine that with the (apparent) blink-and-you'll-miss-it Boys file, and it's less implied in the movie than in the book.
