It'll take more than a giant cat on my screen to stop Spidey from piloting a giant robot in a Power Rangers style show in the 1970s. It'd take a giant cat with a time machine. Go go Power Rangers, you mighty morphin' Power Rangers. Especially Spidey, our honorary Rangerrrr. That's how the song goes.

Paul Giamatti alone gets a ticket from me, he looks bugnuts crazy in this film.

I love that they seem to have the 5 film series mapped out

Really? They already have way too many villains in this one, and clearly they are going to do the Sinister 6 in the next movie. I think they are ramping it up too soon and never going to be able to sustain it. This movie will likely make money, due to name recognition and general approval of the last one. Justifying another sequel. But I have a feeling public sentiment may sour on this movie, making the next one not do very well and killing this series. For a few years anyway.

I found it a bit patchy, not as good as ASM and definately not as good as Spider-Man 2 (which I loooooove) but I think easily better than Spider-Man 1 & 3.  It suffered a bit from Iron-Man 2 issues of trying to build too much of a universe too fast in my opinion.

I would agree with that, Scott.

We saw the Amazing Spider-Man 2 yesterday and here is my review: I was surprised that it did not suck as much as I thought it would. I actually enjoyed it.

Caught it yesterday morning. Frankly, I was unimpressed (about as much as I was in the first one). There is a small sampling of wonderful character beats sprinkled throughout the film, especially Peter's talk with Aunt May and how he acted when he was in the costume (this movie got the jokey side down much better, and I loved the bits where he was just acting as a hero to everyday people, it was wonderful). Which is good. Trouble is, they were all lost in a sea of general crazy nonsense. There was less a plot and more a big mish-mash of half-told mysteries and future-movie-set-ups, occasionally brought together by some big action sequence with Electro. Which was about all he served to do, since you could cut Electro completely and have the exact same movie, albeit one that isn't quite so bloated. Harry is introduced with little fanfare and we're suddenly expected to care about his and Peter's relationship, and then there's more magic blood, and a general avalanche of stupid plot contrivances, and so on and so forth.

Yeah, it's no Spider-Man 2. Not by a long shot, even though it occasionally tries to be for some weird reason (that German doctor was something out of another movie by way of someone who doesn't quite understand how Raimi does camp).

I will admit to being entertained by it well enough, and probably walked out feeling alright (likely due to the actual emotion they manage to wring out of the overlong ending), but then the whole thing just started to fall apart the more I thought about it.

Sideswipe

I must be the only one who likes the first Spider-Man movie better than 2.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

So, just got out of the movie, and I only have one question for people who don't like it: Why do you hate fun?

Use of the Pacific Rim Defense is not applicable on a movie where science genius Peter Parker needs YouTube to explain to him what a battery is.

Pak-Man

Seriously, I think I must have watched a different Amazing Spider-Man 2 than the critics did. The movie I saw was a major step forward for the newer franchise. I feel like the Gwen Stacy/Peter Parker relationship was handled WAY better than the Mary Jane/Peter Parker relationship from the Raimi trilogy. The whole "You mean you missed my PLAY so you could save a couple LIVES!?" thing never sat right with me. And that made it all the more impactful when (BIG Spoiler)

I'm not using such and argument because (I felt) Pacific Rim was STOOO-PID! ;) This isn't the same thing. This movie had silliness, but it also had a great story.
