Was that supposed to be Harry Osborn in the post-credit sequence?

'Spider-Man 2' Testing Quartet of Actors for Harry Osborn Role (Heat Vision Exclusive)
Quote from: Borys Kit The filmmakers are busy building a web of actors for the upcoming Spider-Man sequel.

On Monday, at least four young men were testing for the role of Harry Osborn in Sony's sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, which reunites director Marc Webb with stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, adding Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane.

Osborn is an integral part of the Spidey mythology – the son of tycoon Norman Osborn, he's one of Peter Parker's few friends but evolves into one of Spider-Man's nemeses. (He takes on the mantle of the Green Goblin after his father, the original Goblin, is killed by ... well, no sense spoiling the story.)

According to insiders, those testing are Sam Claflin, a British actor who appeared in high-profile tentpoles Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White & the Huntsman; Eddie Redmayne, another Brit who appeared in My Week With Marilyn and will be seen as Marius in Les Miserables; Douglas Booth, who appeared in LOL and is currently shooting Noah for Darren Aronofsky; and Boyd Holbrook, an American actor whose credits include The Big C, Hatfields & McCoys and the upcoming adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's The Host.

James Franco played the Osborn role in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man films of the 2000s. Franco took a more brooding and dark path for the character, and an original plan was to continue that tradition in the new films, with actors Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbet initially under consideration.

But sources say the producers and filmmakers now are seeking actors with characteristics that include athleticism and good looks.

The testings come as several films, including Michael Bay's Transformers 4, are in the midst of casting young actors.

Sony declined comment.

The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel Setting A Course For Blighty
Quote from: Brendon ConnellyThe production title for next Spider-Man film is going to be London Calling. Already that's interesting.

So, on learning this a couple of weeks back, I started doing some research, on two fronts.

First of all, I wanted to know why. Secondly, I wanted to know if the production would be coming over here to England, if only for a while.

As you might expect, I haven't been able to garner any inside knowledge on what the tightly locked-down script contains – but I have had an appropriate storyline from the comics explained. Warning – if you haven't seen the first film, the next two sentences will spoil an element of it.

My informant (ie. Rich) told me that Gwen Stacy came over to the UK to study when mourning the death of her father.

That seems to follow on from the last movie rather nicely – and will certainly give Mary Jane Watson a chance to steal the spotlight.

Sounds good. I'll take that as my "Why" for now.

But how about the second line of enquiry? Well, that's where my digging has been rather more fruitful.

I managed to confirm that London Calling has indeed been planning for some production over here in the UK. How much? No idea. Yet. But it's not studio stuff – or at least not just studio stuff. They're planning to film out and about in the streets.

As location scouting and booking happens we'll likely be able to give you a better idea of what's being planned, but for now, there's just the interesting prospect of seeing the friendly webhead getting a whole new neighbourhood to swing around.

Is it possible...just once...to not build up Gwen Stacy as a throwaway when Mary Jane comes along?  Just once?  In one continuity?  I know MJ is supposed to be the love of his life and all that, but Gwen was actually very well built up in the first movie, it'd suck to see her kicked out just because someone else comes along.  I'm sure Emma Watson would agree, anyway.

You do know Gwen dies in the comics, right?

Yes, I know she does.  But in the Ultimate comics...which were, you know, supposed to restart the series and take it in all new directions...had Gwen around for a long time.  Then they bumped her off because that's what people were expecting.  Which went against the whole point of trying new and different things in the first place.

I also got my Emmas mixed up in my earlier post.  I said Emma Watson, who was clearly the one from the Harry Potter films, when I really meant Emma Thompson.  My apologies. ;)

She did come back though.  And then outlived Peter Parker.

Ultimate Comics are pretty wonky in the last few years.  They really lost their way due to Ultimatum but then the Death of Spider-Man really helped pull it all back together.

You did but I'm sure everyone knew what you meant & have friends and family who love them so didn't feel like pointing it out would validate their lives.

I'm glad they got a good actor to play this, but what the FUCK is up with the black suit? I know the regular one with the goofy lightning bolt helmet thing wouldn't work, but why not keep him green? He's gonna look like a reject from the GI Joe movies, isn't he?
