This fall those fuzzy little robot toys are back, and hiding under the fuzzy cover is a little terminator:

Wasn't easy to get the cover off, I think the ears are glued on after the fur is put on.
Eventually I'll probably tear it apart completely to see how many motors they used.  for now I put it back together.  The previous Furby was amazing in that it used a single motor to do everything.  This one looks like it uses more.

It's actually a LOT cuter like that, rather than with the fur on.

I think they could actually do some cool stuff making nerdy novelty versions for us. *sigh*And a Brony version. :P

Do these really not have an off switch?
Yes, they do not have an off switch.  And to get to the batteries you need a screwdriver.

But if you put it down and don't touch it for about 5 minutes it goes to sleep, and so far the only way I've found to wake it back up is to tip it over.

That would be cool, the "belly" sensor is sewn into the fur, so you lose that one without the cover.  There's a little connector on the right cheek to plug the sensor into.  The foil taped to the body are the other 2 "touch" sensors, but they are capacitance sensors so you just need to put your hand close to trigger them.  The tip sensor seems to be a mechanical one, you can hear the ball rattling around when you tip or shake it.  The little cloth loop in the back is the tail pull switch, hooks into a string that goes to the tip of the tail.

I would love to design toys. So much more fun than the glove box latches I design now.
