Wow.  What movies do you watch then?

I am mostly a sci-fi monster movie person.  The crappier the better.  There aren't too many movies that I've actually wanted to watch, let alone have.

BTW, does seeing the Rifftrax version of a movie count as actually seeing said movie?  I do that a lot.

Interesting. I would've guessed French New Wave.

I am not much of a movie person myself and I debated as to whether or not I should weigh in on some of these votes if I didn't see the movies in question. In the end, I decided to vote, based on the fact that if I hadn't seen them but knew enough about them from a cultural reference point of view that was just as valid as having seen them. I might not have had any great love for The Shawshank Redemption because I haven't seen it, but I know enough about it to understand that it's an important movie to a lot of people, so I voted for it (I think).

C-109 mins, TV-G
For those who haven't seen (at the very least) 'Trip to the Moon' ['103 Film' #82 - Le Voyage Dans La Lune] one should try to catch these, as they are film history.  With 17 of them, I'm pleased to be able to see them, as I'm sure there are a number of his I haven't seen yet.

Out of the final list, these are the ones I haven't seen.

4 - Seven Samurai
11 - The Godfather
17 - Apocalypse Now
21 - Once Upon A Time In The West
28 - Fight Club
34 - Goodfellas
36 - No Country For Old Men
56 - The Godfather Part II
80 - Fitzcarraldo
100 - Boogie Nights
102 - Anchorman

For reasons expressed elsewhere for most of them, nearly all are ones I won't or can't watch for one reason or another.  The one I could see myself potentially watching I've added to my NetFlix queue.

[[Just woke up, edited the list to make the 2nd half of this (the 1st 1/2 I'd written over a couple days), and head is throbbing and painful.  Too soon for me to resume thinking, clearly... but there was only so long where this post would be relevant.]]

can't watch?

In my brain's current condition, it was less painful to skim 27 pages of my past posts ('Search' couldn't find it :P ) than it was to write a short version of this from scratch.

[I have been a little pissed lately because with the head injuries I can't read films, so foreign films are out of the question unless they are dubbed.  (My limit for reading a book in silence is about 20-30 minutes a day on a GOOD day, if that is mixed with anything else - such as background music, or trying to watch action in video in the background at the same time - my comprehension goes to '0' and I might last 5 minutes tops, remembering nothing about what I just saw or read, but still needing a couple days to recover from it.)  This thread reminded me that when I first heard about Kurosawa - much closer to TBI#3 - I looked for a dubbed copy of Seven Samurai, and they apparently didn't exist.  The reason I've been a little pissed lately is because after the last round of suggestions when I was reminded of him yet again, I looked for his films again on NetFlix and they apparently still don't exist dubbed.]

It would be cool if someone took the time to dub Seven Samurai into English for Lucas to enjoy.  Maybe one of the riff groups could put it together.  They could act out the voices and everything.  I would try to do that myself, but it would probably turn out better if done by someone with experience with recording audio tracks to be synced to movies.

In the meantime you could check out The Magnificent Seven, I don't like it as much but it's a pretty great remake*

I 'liked' this post, and feel it is a nice thought :), but truthfully, I think you've got something (and not just for me).  If such a thing was done, then posted to YouTube (or circulated in another way), it would be likely to raise the profile of the group who did it, in a film-watching population who might not otherwise find them.

By The Clash?  [...sorry... Sandinista flashback there... ;) ]

But seriously, even though I dislike Westerns, I added it to my NetFlix queue as a 'space filler' in my brain until I can see 7 Sam.

Seen both, actually.  So I guess I got the gist of it, just missing the original source material.

Haven't seen that (and NetFlix doesn't have a DVD of it).

I never thought I'd see a legitimately good reason to dub a movie, but yeah, this would be pretty cool. Admittedly, it would require finding proper voices for the characters, less things turn all Kung-Pow on us (that said, dibs on Katsushirō).

Anywho, cool that this is finally complete. Still some stuff I wish was on (not nearly enough horror on this list, especially modern), but when there's only 103 movies, that's bound to be the case. Now, time for everyone to start spreading this list around. Print it out and put it on laminated note cards. When someone asks you what's a good movie to watch, hand it to them and (without another word) turn and walk away. Do so dramatically, maybe throw some dust in the air as you spin around. Make a show out of it.

And for the record, I haven't seen:
5 - Deep Throat
29 - The Bridge On The River Kwai
30 - King Kong (1933)
35 - North By Northwest
40 - Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure
43 - Rear Window
44 - The Bride Of Frankenstein
45 - Forbidden Planet
46 - It's A Wonderful Life
57 - Superman
65 - Singing In The Rain
77 - Patton
80 - Fitzcarraldo
83 - MASH
85 - Jason And The Argonauts (1963)
90 - Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?
93 - Hedwig And The Angry Inch
94 - Charlie Chaplin's The Kid
