Relaxing Dragon

I caught it at its one and only US screening late last year. I really liked it, it's exactly the sort of thing that a teen-aimed horror movie should be (and done in such a way that calling it that is not an insult).

QuoteWith the official programming being announced this week and only two weeks left until Comic-Con, things are getting quite exciting. While a number of announcements have been made, including that The Hobbit and even Neill Blomkamp's Elysium will be delivering a full-on presentation in Hall H, there are always surprises. The studios usually do a good job keeping things under wraps until the big show, but a few little tidbits seem to have leaked out. The biggest one, worth noting, is that there may be a big Godzilla surprise during Warner Bros' Hall H panel on Saturday, which will likely already feature Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

You can see the complete schedule as updates arrive here, or on the Comic-Con website. In the meantime, here's what we've heard. Latino Review (via Movies.com) reveals that Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim panel will feature a big surprise for Godzilla, Legendary Pictures' new take being written by Max Borenstein, with Gareth Edwards (Monsters) slated to direct. He won't reveal what, but says: "I hear the presentation is SICK! ... Godzilla will stomp both the audio and video systems within Hall H two weeks from this Saturday! I'll be there to witness it myself. I can already envision them shutting down the lights, hearing Godzilla's roar, and the crowd going wild!" Me too. And I can't wait to be right there and find out what they show us!

This isn't the only bit of early Comic-Con news recently. Earlier in the week, word started to get around that Marvel's next big project due May of 2014 would be Guardians of the Galaxy. Eventually it ended up getting confirmed on sites like THR and Variety, but have a good feeling that this news was premature, and they're saving the big announcements for Comic-Con. All we know for now is that there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy movie - but who is directing? Latino Review does state: "It will be announced as Marvel's second 2014 movie at Comic Con... Thanos is in it... It will 'lead up to' The Avengers 2 in 2015." Whoa.

Beyond that, who knows what else Marvel may bring? Earlier this week we also wrote about Edgar Wright shooting his Ant-Man test reel - maybe they will show that as another big surprise during Marvel's Iron Man 3 panel on Saturday? Who knows, we'll find out in two weeks. Either way, it sounds like this will be a very exciting year at the San Diego Comic-Con with many surprises. Don't worry, we'll cover everything as closely as we can. In the meantime, this is the latest we've heard, so stay tuned for updates. Sound good?

It Looks Like Joe Dante's The Hole is Getting Released in the U.S.

QuoteA listing at Video ETA says Joe Dante's The Hole - a 3D thriller that's been sitting on the shelf for some time in the U.S. - is coming to DVD on September 25th.  Suspect of this, we did a bit of digging and discovered Big Air Studios has come on board to distribute the film domestically.  This is the same company that took out Darren Lynn Bousman's 11-11-11 on a limited theatrical run.

At this time, Big Air has not officially announced plans for The Hole's release, however, it is listed on the company's website.

It's very possible a limited theatrical release is being planned prior to a possible DVD release on September 25th.  We will keep you posted.

Teri Polo, Chris Massoglia, Haley Bennett, Nathan Gamble and Quinn Lord star in the film.

Synopsis: Susan and her sons Dane and Lucas Thompson move from Brooklyn to Bensonville, in the countryside. Dane is upset with the constant changes of address and the family has lived in many cities. Lucas and Dane befriend their next door neighbor, the gorgeous Julie and the brothers find a bottomless hole in the basement of their house locked with several padlocks. They take the locks off and sooner they are haunted by their darkest fears. Further, they believe that the hole might be a gateway to hell.

:highfive: About bloody time.

YES!!!!! Time to dance!

Disney Animation teams up with Marvel for 'Big Hero 6' -- BREAKING
Quote from: Anthony BreznicanWalt Disney Studios animation is officially joining forces with Marvel.

Big Hero 6 is not as well known as The Avengers, but it's another group of powerful individuals with wildly different histories and powers, united by the Japanese government as a crisis-fighting super-squad.

Disney reps confirmed to EW that the film is in the early stages of development, though they declined to specify which filmmakers are involved. As Hollywood heads into Comic-Con next month, rumors are swirling ...

With Marvel also developing a live-action version of its Guardians of the Galaxy series, this will be the second major test of whether cult-favorite characters from deeper within the company's collection of heroes will be able to connect with mainstream moviegoers.

Members of Big Hero 6 include:

Sunfire — who can harness the power of solar energy to blast his enemies.

Silver Samurai — a sword-swinging warrior with a history of tangling with Wolverine.

    Hiro — A 13-year-old boy genius.

Honey Lemon — who can draw practically any object she needs from a mystical purse that's a portal to another dimension.

Baymax — A giant robot created by Hiro who can shapeshift into a dragon form.

Go-Go Tomago — a woman in a high-tech, voice-controlled suit, who can propel herself through the air in an egg-shaped ball of energy.[/list]

When you think about it, what problem couldn't be solved by a sun god, a robot dragon, a smarty-pants kid, a woman with a magic purse, a samurai made of precious metal, and an energy ball?

    From SHH:
Exclusive: Talking with the Producers of The Amazing Spider-Man

    From CBM:
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Producers Discuss The Possibility Of Introducing The Sinister Six
Quote from: Josh WildingTalking to SuperHero Hype, The Amazing Spider-Man producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have discussed the possibility of the Sinister Six being used in a future installment in the franchise. It would appear that the success of Marvel's The Avengers has convinced them that it would work, while they also express interest in using the Kingpin too. Check out a few excerpts from the interview below and be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the page to read it in full. Which six villains would you like to see make up the roster of The Sinister Six?

QuoteDo you feel like you need to stay away from some of the villains that have appeared in the Sam Raimi movies? Or can you redefine them within the context of this new Spider-Man?

Arad: Well, not really. There are so many ways to paint these villains, all of them. As you know, one of the great sagas in the Spider-Man universe is of course the Sinister Six. I think "Avengers" did okay the last time I looked.

Tolmach: It's going to be okay.

        Arad: Yeah, it will survive.

So are you suggesting you're going to do five Spider-Man movies introducing each villain and then the sixth movie will have the Sinister Six?

        Tolmach:
It seems like a good model.

Arad: It all depends on the stories that one wants to tell, because Spider-Man is really more a depth kind of a story, we have to be careful how many villains we can service, because a relationship with a villain has to be such that it's a story on his own. We attempted to do multiple villains--you've been there--you just need screen time to do it.

Does Sony have the rights to Kingpin? That was a great Spider-Man villain until Frank Miller took him for his run on Daredevil and he became known more as a Daredevil villain, appearing in that movie.

Arad: Believe it or not, Kingpin was on loan to Daredevil, so again, anything that is part of the Spider-Man Universe or introduced in the Spider-Man Universe--without getting too legal beagle here--is an opportunity, and if we have a story that Kingpin is important, I'm sure we can handle that.

Aside from the fact this looks pretty meh, I just don't think I can hang with Tom Cruise in a movie anymore. I can no longer see past the distraction that it's Tom Cruise, and not the character, on the screen. Not to mention his nasally-ass voice has become increasingly irritating.

I agree. I have never held any great love for Tom Cruise, and the more off-screen bullshit he pulls the less I like him. I generally pass on any Tom Cruise movie, no matter what the premise. I feel the same about John Travolta, although I have disliked him from day one on Welcome Back Kotter,

Depends on the project for both, I guess.  But yeah, their off screen "bullshit" kind of makes me less interested in their movies.  I did enjoy the last Mission Impossible film though and want to see Rock Of Ages (but not because of Tom Cruise specifically).

    Relaxing Dragon

I've never really been one for that line of thinking. A star can be totally nuts offscreen (Cruise, Gibson, Miss "9/11 truther" Cotillard), but I'm just looking at them from the context of their character in the movie at hand. And, all things considered, I kinda dig Cruise. Not perfect, but I'm a big fan of several of his movies (particularly the ones he did with Spielberg), so I can't hold much against him.

You can't possibly be talking about the travesty that was War of the Worlds?

I am indeed, sir! A more unfairly maligned film if there ever was one, it is.

Although I will clarify that I am more talking about Minority Report than I am WotW.

I admit, I was bieng a bit overdramtic calling it a travesty.  It was really boring though.

I like Tom Cruise.  He seems like a nice guy - everyone who's ever worked with him has said so - and he's smart enough to try and keep a lid on the crazy things he believes in.  He's not the best actor around, but he has a charisma that is lacking in a lot of the newer leading men that have become popular.
