Well, adapting this property into a feature worked out so well the first time. Plus, it's still a relevant franchise, as Cabbage Patch Kids are still taking the nation by storm and just as ripe for parody as ever. YOUR MOTIVATIONS CONTINUE TO MAKE SENSE, EISNER.

The part that concerns me the most is that in the articles for this people keep saying "Well, it can't be worse than the first one." NEVER SAY THAT!

I loved Garbage Pail Kids, but the thing about GPK is they were waaay too violent/vulgar for the audience that embraced them. That's actually fine for trading cards because as kids we were able to trade them on the down-low, and there wasn't really an entity responsible for making sure they were age-appropriate.

The problem with a movie is that if you want to faithfully adapt something like this:

You'd need to either water it down until the appeal is gone, or go for a hard R.

Good point! And I think the fact that they weren't really "age appropriate" was the entire appeal of the cards.

I would like to see a hard R version of this, but even then it would be a curiosity at best. I doubt a studio would put much money into something like that.

I do think the funniest "watering down" happened in the original movie though. They have a mojor part of the plot involving a teenage girl and fashion (really BAD 80s fashion, to boot) in a movie based on boys trading cards that were all about being anti-girlie. Of all the stupid shit in that movie, that is by far the worst.
