Croupier - One of Clive Owens' earlier movies.

LOVED Croupier, very cool movie. I need to watch that one again.

I recently saw The Other (not to be confused with The Others), which I had never heard of until I saw it. It's a '70s good twin/bad twin creepy movie, and I liked it a lot, although there was one part that was really hard to watch (for those who have seen it, I'm talking about what was found in a wine barrel).

Someone mentioned an early Peter Jackson movie--another one of his that I like that is kind of obscure is Heavenly Creatures. Very bizarre.
That shocks my full military wear!

4) Freaks (1932) - Gooble gobble, gooble gobble, one of us, one of us...

this is one of the creepiest movies i have ever seen. it's really fantastic, too.

Primer - The best time-travel movie ever made (Again, you disagree.  I'm alright with that.)

great movie!

you guys are too quick with your lists!   agreed on equilibrium & a bunch of others you all picked.  here's a few:

brick - brilliant reimagining of the noir genre

returner -that's the US release name, anyway. great shoot em up hong kong movie about time travel, aliens,and..uhh...time travel.

the snow walker
-  "concerns a brave risk-taking pilot (Barry Pepper) and an Inuit woman in frail health who is his passenger. When the pair experience a plane crash, each is forced to learn from and help the other in order to survive"  i can't help it. i like barry pepper.

tremors -  one of the funniest movies i've ever seen.

the occult history of the third reich   -not a movie, but this 3 disc set is fascinating. i had no idea of the occult influence on hitler, himmler, & the rise of the nazi party.

Fuzzy Necromancer

Does anybody know of good obscure movies that aren't either eraserhead-esque or nightmare fuel? Just good movies that for some reason are relatively obscure?
Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

Variety of Cells

Little Murders.  It sounds bad, but it's not a horror film.  It's a comedy with Eliot Gould and Donal Sutherland (for a scene.)  It's one of my favorite films, and I find it hilarious.  It's based on a play written by Jules Feiffer, who also adapted it into the screenplay.  So yes, it's a filmed play, but it was shot by Gordon Willis, who shot The Godfather, so it's actually interesting visually, despite being an adapted play.  It's directed by Alan Arkin, and has the actor who played Mushnik in Little Shop of Horrors, the remake, as the dad.  Anyway, it's funny, and the speech that Donald gives as the priest is the funniest thing I've ever heard.  But it also has something to say.  I strongly recommend it.

Minnesota

yeah returner is a pretty sweet movie and that occult 3rd Reich doc sounds interesting

Spartan - Another underrated Kilmer flick.

Yes.  I loved Spartan.  I'm kind of a Mamet junkie though.

Triumph of the Will - Interesting bit of history and some of the best film work ever done.  Too bad all that beautiful film work was wasted on the Nazi party.   But this is not a pro-Nazi movie, but a very interesting look back at history.

Have you read The Wicked Son by David Mamet? I just started it..

No, I haven't.  Do you like it so far?

I've only read a couple of his books...The Village, which was very strange and hard to follow.  I didn't like it all that much.  South of the Northeast Kingdom was his autobiographical writings on his hometown in Vermont, which was excellent.

Yeah it is alright so far, but it will take me awhile to read. It is not a easy one night read...

Laziest Man on Mars

"The American Astronaut"  from ~2000.  It's a post-modern-space-western-musical.  It's very polemic - people either love it or hate it.  I love it.
Oh Good, Shim was Joe Elic.

Korean director Ji-woon Kim made some marvellous films that no one's seen.

A Tale of Two Sisters is, to my mind, the best horror film there ever was.

A Bittersweet Life is a neat and well put together crime melodrama.

The Quiet Family is a very slightly more obscure film than its obscure Japanese remake The Happiness of the Katakuris. It's much blacker in its humour than Katakuris' anarchic Sound of Music parody, and much better for it.

I don't know about the US, but it's not too hard to track down these DVDs in the UK.

And of course there's Chan-wook Park's Vengeance Trilogy, but since Lady Vengeance came out everyone knows about that. I've still only seen the first one, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, and it is possibly my favourite film of all time.

You're really missing out by not seeing Oldboy, especially if you liked Mr Vengence....Oldboy is a stunning film.

WouTar

Conspiracy.
A made for/by HBO movie starring Kenneth Branagh. Best World War 2 movie ever made in my opinion. Very emotional and stellar performances allround.

Revenge Trilogy by Chan-Wook Park.
Three masterpieces of cinema.

Joint Security Area.
Powerful thriller about a friendship between north and south korean soldiers, stationed in the DMZ between the north and south. The final frame of this movie is a real tearjerker.

Memories of Murder.
Great movie about a rape/murder investigation in South Korea. Again, final frame = tearjerker.

Tetsuo: The Iron Man.
Eraserhead gone japanese/anime style. Quite disturbing. Didn't care much for its sequel.

And many more.

Try "Secondhand Lions" or maybe "The Dish".
