Job Interviews

The interacting with different people at work should be busy.....but actually fun.

I am hoping the hospital doctor lets me back full at work next month because I am 100% ready.   Being on long term outage since 01/01/2012 is a bit much.   ALL of my physical and mental skills are back.   And since I have metal covering part of my skull full time, I can take on the cuban attacks.

I'm getting really tired of the "what are your salary requirements" question.

You assholes created the fucking job, you have a number in mind, why don't you fucking tell me what it pays instead of playing these god damn mind games.

Welp, Tomorrow ends my 6 years of full time self-employment and begins the next chapter of employment with a new company.

Currently relaxing after good dinner from O'Charlies and watching some Star Trek TNG before bedie-by-boze-time..
I know I started this thread for job interviews but since I am about to start my first day at my new job tomorrow, I thought I'd post here instead of the Completely Random Thoughts thread.. Yay work  :-\

Yeah it sucks starting a new job.  In my experience, the transition is really difficult the first week, but it becomes less so the next few weeks.  After about 6 weeks, I usually get pretty acclimated to the new environment and it feels more like home.

I have half a mind, with the salary question, to say something absurdly high, like "$125,000 a year".  I find that when I go high, they say "we can't pay that much" and give me the secret number they were thinking of the whole time.

I've mentioned I think that I'm exploring a return to school starting at the end of May.  It would be summer session at the local community college to start.  They have these connected degree programs where you can spend 2 years there and then transfer for your last 2 years at a 4 year institution.  Given that this backup plan is seeming more and more appealing every day, I'm rapidly losing patience with these people and their mind games.

I got 2 E-Mails and a phone call from AFLAC trying to schedule an interview for jobs with their sales force.  I'm terrible at sales (due to my shy personality and complete lack of sales experience), so I just blew off the E-Mails.  The phone call woke me up, so I said a groggy "no thank you" and hung up the phone.

I just wonder what kind of scam they're pulling if they're so aggressively trying to schedule interviews with people who clearly have no sales background.

To expand further upon my recent remarks regarding salary requirements, I offer you some E-Mail correspondence I am having today with a recruiter.  The job is something at Aberdeen Proving Grounds which I am not qualified for, but I applied for because I have to maintain an active search for work as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits.  It's in my field, but it's still above my expertise.  I don't have the professional skills, the education, or the security clearance for this.  Consequently, I am not taking this seriously.

I don't have secret clearance.  I'm not sure if I'm clearable.  I don't know what that entails.  I'm a U.S. Citizen with no criminal record and good credit if that helps.  I am between jobs and in the Aberdeen area (about 30 miles north).

Hi Michael -

What are your salary requirements? Have you applied with Lockheed Martin recently? Can you call me when you have a minute?

Thanks in advance.

No I haven't applied with Lockheed Martin ever.

My salary requirements are that I be paid a salary.

This has got to be the best response to that stupid question I've ever seen.

Home! Not a bad day over all.. Lot of Veterans at this place (including me)! It's a small plant and there's only about 20-25 personnel working each shift but it is a large company with plants around the world

Learning the coating process for tool accessories (drill bits, carbide tips, etc.) including stripping chemicals for removing old coatings as well as sandblasting. Pretty slow day overall but that varies day by day.

I'll be working 6am-2:30pm for a while and still have no idea what shift I will end up on permanently, and I won't receive my first paycheck till the last Thursday in March (from what I'm told)..

Most of the day I shot the shit sharing war stories from the military with the other employees. Pretty laid back place from what I've seen but it is only my first day so I'm sure that'll change as well :o

Bob

Sounds okay so far.....

Cool. Sounds like working with a bunch of other folks will be kinda fun, and a nice change from mostly working alone. Especially if you have some shared experience, like the service, to bond over.

Yeah so far everybody seems pretty laid back and alot of them have been with the company some 15-20 years so their turn-around rate seems very low ..
