I had very nearly this same argument with a friend some years ago, this being the "is it art or isn't it" argument.  At the end of the argument, I pretty much decided that it is such a subjective thing that it's better to just consider every entertainment medium (movies, music, etc.) "art", then live by a simple motto: "Just because it's art, that doesn't mean it's good."

Due that same subjective nature i refuse to pretend like these things are art.  It allows in too much crap.  Let David stay art and let super babies and beverly hills chihuahua be just movies.  

What some would call a masterpiece, some would call crap.  I've been pretty honest with my artist friends about my dislike for Picaso's work, for instance.  Also, there are people who prefer crap over a masterpiece.  Again, for instance, I would be more likely to put "Dogs Playing Poker" on my wall than "Starry Night."

The only person who is trolling is you,the rest of us are having a debate.

If you think he is trolling then by replying to his trolling instead of reporting it you are trolling to by dragging it out.

I think what Gunflyer is trying to say in his way is that not all films are art but well made ones can be.  So because Empire is well made it is art and because Transformers 2 is it's not.

An example of his logic would be this.
Just because the Cane Mutiny won a Pulitzer Prize that does not mean cheap romance novels in Wal Mart are prize winning books,and just because cheap romance novels exist that does not mean all book are cheap trash that should not win a Pulitzer prize.

Basically yes, that and the characters in good cinema are so endearing that they practically
feel like family. I know one thing for sure, as much as I love Transformers(well, i USED to), the optimus prime
in the CGI movie incarnation does not feel at all like extended family as Han Solo or Lando
Calrissian does. True art has an endearing quality, it invokes nostalgia and warmth.

I did study philosophy in college Sarc, you don't need to elaborate.
I don't know if I have a completely logical rebuttal. Perhaps my idea
of art is that it makes you feel something more than the ordinary, but
emotions and logic are two very different, unrelated things.

I know you dont man.  I just wanted someone to point out my mistake.  At the time i had posted it, i didnt see one. 

In all honesty art is whatever the hell the individual wants to call it.  Its FAR too subjective to have a hard definition like say Mount Rushmore.  We can debate art but not which mountain is Mt Rushmore.  So whatever definition you use is fine by me.

Education does not have to be college. You were educated in the military.  And, regardless of your lack of college degree, what you have to say is still as valuable as what others have to say.
