so anyone prefer one to another?   Personally i like we were soldiers best.  Any thoughts?

Phantom of Krankor

I love war movies, they just move me so much and make me proud of America. My favourites are:

Saving Private Ryan
Band of Brothers
We Were Soldiers
Black Hawk Down
Flags of our Fathers

I also like Apocalypse Now, but that's not really on the same league as the ones I mentioned above.

My least favourite one has to be the Thin Red Line 1998 remake. It was so artsy to the extent where I wanted to throw up and it was just so long and boring. How it got nominated for best picture puzzles me greatly.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Hollywood neither understands sacrifice nor this country so they dont really know what a good war picture is.

We were soldiers is incredible because it shows ALL the human element, and still manages to show exactly HOW the battle was fought, i thought the whole how we use the air thing really informative.

Does Empire of the Sun count?    Probably not.        ;D

Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, We Were Soldiers, Thin Red Line, Apocalypse Now, Black Hawk Down and Flags of our Fathers. Niether of these i have yet to see.    ::)

Well, judging from you'alls comments I'm gonna need to see this We Were Soldiers movie. I loved band of brothers, saving private ryan, sorry didn't care much for Apocalypse now... wasn't that the one with sean penn?
however if you guys like your war movies grounded in pseudo realities I HIGHLY recommend 2005's Straight Into Darkness http://imdb.com/title/tt0287733/

As for all the other war movies, there are so so many, I cant remember too many of em right off hand.

Apocalypse Now, All Quiet on the Western Front, Gettysburg, Stalag 17, Platoon, Zulu, Paths of Glory are all movies I've seen and loved.  I was surprised at how good We Were Soldiers was.

No, Apocalypse now is the one with Marlon Brando, Martain Sheen, and Robert Duvall.

Sean Penn was in The Thin Red Line 1998 remake *resists urge to vomit from memories of that horrible film* and "Casualties of War."

Some of my favorite movies are all listed in this topic.....i think one of the most under appreciated ones is definitely Master and Commander.

Also an amazing foreign film is this one. I highly recommend it.

A Midnight Clear (also an Xmas movie)
The Best Years of Our Lives (really a post-war melodrama, but very moving)

Plus, several of the others that were mentioned.

Taegukgi is easily my favorite.  It has a similar theme of the power of brotherhood to Saving Private Ryan, but I found Taegukgi more powerful personally.
