I know I used to post here a lot more than I do now. I think it's just that a lot of the topics don't interest me, so I scan the "unread since your last visit" and generally read a couple and pretty much have nothing new to add. This place has gotten a lot bigger, and that's great, I'm glad it's picking up, but I'm not spending all my time here like I did when I first discovered it (a whopping 4 months ago lol). I leave it to everyone else to carry on, knowing I can depend on Mike and the gang to keep me entertained.

I do enjoy the games the mods put on, that's a blast :)

Did anyone notice the tragic and unfortunate spelling error in my original post?  I corrected it, but Tarantulas quoted it before I could... OMG!!!

So sorry if anyone noticed that...

Don't worry.. the shame will fade from memory in a generation or two ;)

The post counts are sticking around for now, unless anyone has any real objection to them. I wouldn't think of getting rid of the Member Group names, of course. How else will people know that you're not hurt by pain, or climbed El Capitan?

Anyways, the original concern WAS with some users wanting to boost their post counts, but lately it doesn't seem to be that widespread. If you guys disagree, then maybe it's something I can look into again. Possibly hiding the post count numbers but keeping the group names?

Or making the post count numbers random? (That might be funny, actually).

Again, at this point, we have no plans of changing anything.

If you look at the numbers of people who actually voted (rather than sat on the fence) you will see that people want them gone.

I'm even sure why you would have a middle option... you either want them gone, or your don't... or don't vote.

I honestly don't think anyone but you care about post counts.  Sure, people rib sarc for his but I don't think anyone is jealous or trying to catch up.

Resetting your post count would not serve as an example of anything.  I seriously doubt anyone on this board holds you up as an example of something they wish to be.  Your whining about it serves as an example of something though.  You seem to mention post counts more than anyone else.

Those who sat on the fence did just that for that reason.  Who the heck cares about post counts? The little monikers are neat but I don't see your post count and dream about being you some day.  I don't think sarc is god because of his post count.  Mine, yours and sarcs are the only freakin' post counts I know about because 1) You whine about yours and 2) He gets messed with for his (as you once did).  Besides that I couldn't tell you where anywhere else fell and I'm pretty sure the rest of the board feels the same.  As you mentioned, see the number of people on the fence.

It's a ridiculous thing to be concerned about.  It means nothing and if you're bothered by it one way or the other, then perhaps you should get a life.  I don't think you should get rid of something because you think it's a bad idea or because nobody is obsessed with it.  It's not going to do anything for bandwidth because nobody cares.  If the legend guys were concerned about bandwidth (that is pretty cheap these days, not expensive), they wouldn't set up all the child boards.  As you said, the rifftrax board is growing up hence, there are going to be a lot of doubled threads and such.

Sounds like you have an issue with message boards in general.  This is no different than any other board I've been in terms of off topic discussion.

I think we should let torgo and the rest worry about bandwidth issues and not moan about changing the board around based on info that we're not privy too.  Unless you know something I don't.   I don't care one way or the other but you are acting childish, not noble.

I didn't bring this conversation up... this was started by the mods of this board.  In the poll, there was no real point of having a middle ground SINCE if you didn't care, why vote?  All it does is muddy the waters.  Again, I brought this up months ago to the mods and they recognized then that it was a problem.  I wanted my post count reset to zero BECAUSE people kept on going with flame threads blasting me and others for having a high post count.  To have it reset would show that it didn't really matter to me personally.  I've always valued what people have brought to the board in terms of content.  Content means different things to different people.  I'd say that write ups and pictures that folks did at Rifftrax Live is exactly what this board needs more of, not thread after thread about why they should bring back Arrested Development (which is true, but hugely overdiscussed.)

In terms of whining...

I'm pretty much sick of your whining, I mean aren't you the one that seems to have a hard-on for disagreeing with everything I say?  I was expressing an opinion, which is just that, an opinion.  I'm free to discuss it, just as you are free to disagree with it.  However, dragging your whining on in topic after topic because you seem to have it in for me has gotten old.  Lets just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I don't have a problem with general purpose message boards.  I'd just like to see this board get back to its roots.

AmandaGal

Twice, I've disagreed with you twice recently (and I did just look at my past post for the past few months to be sure I'm not picking on you). Once was in the passion thread and I think everyone in the board disagrees with everyone in the board on that thread.  I, however, disagreed with you based on what I had read and not your personal opinion or my personal opinion.  I could have disagreed with your personal opinion in that thread but i didn't because debating with people on the Internet about religion is pretty futile.

I don't think that's having a hard-on for anything you do or I could possibly do to you.  I could honestly care less about you.  Not at all shocking or hurtful to you I'm sure but the fact that you like to think I'm out to get you and my whole existence is based on pissing you off is laughable.  I guess it's flattering that you think of me that way.

I'm just sick of your holier than though attitude with post counts (and it's come up before), especially when half of the stuff you've posted of late is just as useless and off topic as the birthday threads and other things you think are inappropriate.

THE END.  Go back to the sandbox and play.

I don't know if it matters or not, but I enjoy being co-mayor of Nilbog with Sharky and Pak-Man.   ;D

Post counts do provide at least one useful function, particularly for the n00bs.  When I'm new to a forum, I like to have some concept of how reliable the information I'm getting from other board members is.  Generally, a user's post count is a pretty reliable indicator of that.  If somebody's mouthing off, it's also useful to know whether the guy is a long-time member or a five-post troll.  The post count titles do that, too, but they're less informative than the actual number until you've been on the board for a while.

As to why anybody would vote "on the fence" for this topic, I can only tell you why I did.  Namely, I'm happy enough with the status quo, but I don't see much point in getting worked up over it either way.  If that's true for the rest of those votes, it seems to me you can add them to the count of people who are just fine with the post counts the way they are.

I do have to wonder what is the point of rehashing this debate again.  I can't remember the last time somebody complained about another person's post count, and this thread had lain dormant for almost two months.  People who appear to be posting junk to boost their counts have been called on it directly in the past, and will be again.  My sense is that the board is doing a pretty good job of policing itself.

Agreed. Seriously, why such a heated debate over a non-issue?

Personally I gain life force with every post I make.....my HP is my post count so if it were taken away...well I would die and that would be bad.

Steve-O makes a valid point. Someone with a high post count is more likely to be on the ball, RiffTrax knowledge-wise. Of course, those with really high post counts expose themselves as the weirdos we they really are...

I think something like "Member since August 27, 2006" under my name would be a decent alternative as post counts reach ever higher. I also miss the little country flags.

It's just a part-time gig anyway. The city council have the real power.
