I'm still not sure what the actual problem is though, this is such a fun forum... If it ain't broke...

Any word on this? Are they staying? Leaving? Just wondering.

Eh, no movement on it. Kind of stalled... I don't think we really have more people who feel one way or the other. So I guess, for now they are staying.

I'm working for a bit of "Forum rules" as well.. seeing as how e don't have such a thing posted yet. Hopefully will have something up early next week.

So for not the post counts are staying, until we find reason to do otherwise.

Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

We should keep the post counts...

As the original high poster, I can understand how people can drive conversations, and contribute to the conversation.

This board isn't a baby any more... it's got legs and is running on it's own now.  No need to artificially "stoke the fire".

After the 90th "it's <insert names> birthday thread" or the 50th post from SPAMcasm_Made_Easy in 3 minutes, it makes me long for a quieter time on this forum.

As I've asked in private before (and been denied), I want my post count zero'd out.

AmandaGal

Here you go driving conversation again, as you put it.  Why zero your post count out?  That proves no point and serves no purpose at all.

Every board I've ever been on that has a "family" atmosphere instead of "nobody knows anyone" has birthday threads.  They are annoying to some people but easily ignored and not at all harmful.  I don't think the posters do that to up their post count.  It's like those work birthday parties.   Some people don't want them but you're gonna get one anyway unless you want to be an old curmudgeons and yell at the poor guy who organizes them.

I don't think the member you referenced is posting for the sole purpose of trying to up his post count either.

Must be that his military post provides him with far too much free time.  ;)

I just want to add to the sentiments that this is a great board with a bunch of really smart, articulate folks who I really enjoy spending e-time with.

I don't think artificial measures to ensure some kind of regulated discussion is really warranted here.  The tangents in threads are really, really, fun, and the organic result of good minds exploring fascinating topics.

On the other hand, I can see Torgos concern, the forum is really growing and who knows what kind of people will be invading in the future, (there goes the neighborhood... LOL!)

I voted, "It could go either way...", for that reason.  I'm a Gemini, what can I say, I see both sides...

I think you missed the point of what I was saying..  The point being that only certain people jump on and start those threads, and honestly, it's a giant black hole for forum traffic and posts.  If you want to wish someone happy birthday, send them a PM rather than join a giant, impersonal, ME TOO bandwagon.  On other forums, stuff like that is called post shittng... just ask Lowtax.

I asked that my post count be reset quite a while back, and when asked why, it was to try and stem this race to post that many of the people seem to be involved in on this forum.  It was meant to serve as an example that count doesn't matter, rather it's the content you bring in (which I have done more than my fair share of in the past.)  I was denied my request because the topic was already been discussed by the Riffdaddies and that something was eventually going to be done to end the insanity.

One of the largest problems on this board is topic overlap.  9 people start the exact same conversation, and folks cross post and cross post till they are chasing each others tails.

No matter how you want to argue that is hasn't happened, this board has become so broad and generalized (with 50 million sub boards with topics that don't really have anything to do with Rifftrax) that is feels just like everyone other MST type board online.

The exceptions?

The games the mods are nice enough to grace us with, and the actual discussion of the Rifftrax themselves.

This board could drop everything else, keep those two things, and 90% of the members would still stay since the then missing avenues for discussion would continue since they already exist on other boards online that are already dedicated to their discussion.

Do we really need yet another discussion of 24 or why the PS3's sales figures suck?

Lets get back to the real reason that brought us here in the first place.

I disagree, T.  Having all of the various topics gives us a chance to just bullshit about all kinds of suff and hang out on this site, which is something, that as a business, I think Rifftrax wants.  I mean, the more fun stuff you give us to do here, the longer we stay.  Every business depends on repeat customers and this one is no exception.

It's like the Riffchat that TorgosPizza set up.  That's just another place where we can get to know each other and create a vibrant community.  I tellya, I don't post on any other forums since I found this place.  This is the best place to hang out on the intraweb and while I am here I buy stuff, so... I think that's what Legend Films might want.

Why don't you just not visit those boards(discussing 24 or PS3)?

Also why not just start a new account called Tarantulas2 or something is you want 0 posts.

While I can't speak for everyone, this is the only message board on the internet that I'm a active member of and I'd rather be able to talk to people hear about....GrindHouse or whatever than have to go join another board everytime I want to make a comment about something else.

Are there some pointless topics? sure, I don't get why there is "welcome yourself" place for one, but it doesn't affect me I just never read any of the topics there...

Bandwidth costs money...   Not much money, but it's still drain on Legend's resources.  How many sales are lost when the board goes apeshit during a game?

I don't... I pick and choose where I post, just like everyone else.  One good thing may be to limit where folks can post until their account is so many days old.  Many boards do this to force folks to look around and see what the community is all about BEFORE turning them hog wild to ask if Joel is going to do a Rifftrax any time soon.

Creating a Tarantulas2 account doesn't actually accomplish anything like resetting the numbers on my actual account would.  What does it accomplish?  It proves that post count is nothing but a number.

The concern is that the crap vs. cream is getting a little less balanced as of late.  Too many long time members are thread shitting to get their numbers up without contributing anything real to the board.
