DIMENSION FILMS ANNOUNCES THAT PIRANHA 3D – THE SEQUEL IS IN THE WORKS

PIRANHA 3D WINS SUCCESS WITH AUDIENCES, CRITICS AND AT THE BOXOFFICE

New York, NY – August 23, 2010 – After earning rave reviews from top critics, wild cheers from audiences around the country, and $10 million in its opening weekend boxoffice, Dimension Films is pleased to announce that PIRANHA 3D – THE SEQUEL is in the works.

PIRANHA 3D producer Mark Canton stated, "We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving PIRANHA 3D, but cheering for it. And it's fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can't wait to get to work on the sequel."

PIRANHA 3D opened with fantastic reviews from top critics like the ASSOCIATED PRESS and REUTERS, enjoying a very FRESH rating of 80-82% favorable reviews on the popular movie review site ROTTEN TOMATOES throughout it's opening weekend. The movie has captured the attention of movie fans as well as elite media outlets like The Wall St. Journal, The Daily Beast and The Huffington Post. And taking Hollywood by surprise, PIRANHA 3D – via a partnership with Funny Or Die – is the subject of a much-talked about campaign to be named Best Picture of the year. Funny Or Die's "For Your Consideration" video for PIRANHA 3D took the nation by storm last week. And, as announced over the weekend, Academy Award ® nominee and Piranha 3D heroine Elisabeth Shue will debut a brand new video in the coming days on Funny Or Die.

I think it was on the CHUD comments somebody suggested the title Piranha 3DD.

I am all for a sequel, as long as they focus less on the teenage characters and more on the adults.

and the fact that the Piranhas should take to the air in this Sequel and have it  set to flight of the Valkyries.

Oh this sounds so awesome!

But I repeat my comment from before DON'T CONCENTRATE ON THE TEENAGE CHARACTERS!

I actually didn't mind the teen characters from the other film, I thought they made a decent enough centerpiece. The bigger stars in their cameos, awesome as they are, work best in exactly that capacity: cameos. Don't want to overdue them.

In the meanwhile, I'm trying to imagine how they're going to bring Ving Rhames' character back, and I think it will go something like this: http://youtu.be/vQ-lYPHtaeM

Okay, I listened to last week's Best Show on WFMU today, and Paul Scheer was on the set of Piranha 3DD, giving us some fun morsels to chew on...

Also adding to the awesomeness is the great David Koechner.

Let's append more to that additional bit of awesomeness...

Is there any doubt this isn't going to rule??? The Thanksgiving movie I've waited my entire life for.

Looks cool. Although didn't they establish at the endof the first one that the piranha were huge now?

Continuity has no place in a world full of steel-eating piranhas and the gun-legged Vings that hunt them.
