"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Ok i will be the one to say it,I don't think Avatar is really a bad movie.  There are a lot of worse movies released each year.  I enjoyed every minute of it,I loved the world it created even though I knew it was ripped off of other things, and I know the plot had it's flimsy moments but it held together pretty well and the action was some of the most fun i have seen so I enjoyed it.  It was not a great movie but i found it to be a good movie and nowhere near as awful as some people make out.  i hope the riff is them making jokes about the goofy moments and not them just saying "This movie suck","Too much CGI",and "This isn't the greatest movie of all time".  I hope they are just making a fun movie more fun not just cursing at the screen like they did with Episode 1.

*Ducks for cover* ;)

If they say "Too much CGI," my nitpicking nerd mind will go crazy ("The whole movie was all motion-captured CGI!")

Anyways, I agree with you. It's not a bad movie, nor is it the greatest movie ever. I found it to be a well-made, well-executed, and overall entertaining film. That's not to say it doesn't beg for a riffing, of course  (they better damn well have a tentacle porn joke in there regarding the Na'vi's tails...)

Doc, you have to ignore these threads. Seriously.

Look, I enjoyed Transformers. I liked the sequel too, although not as much. Twilight? If I ignored the "These are really goofy vampires" and stalking bits wasn't as bad as I'd heard when I watched it pre-riff. Paranormal Activity? Decent horror film with good atmosphere and really annoying characters. Drag Me to Hell? Enjoyable little horror film. Yet to read the threads here on the site, they're all horrible abominations of celluloid that should be used by Shosanna Dreyfuss when she screens Stolz der Nation. If you like the film, just ignore the complaints.

As for the text, folks? Do you read the descriptions of the film on .com? Avatar's isn't significantly more negative than many other of the feature film riffs there. They're extremely snarky in practically every description.

BTW: for the record, I thought Avatar had lovely FX and scenery and a horribly derivative plot that caused me to roll my eyes during many of the dramatic scenes. But it wasn't as bad as some of the comments indicate. And I'll still be buying a copy of the disc on Thursday.

Hey! Be nice. Compound no doubt sold a LOT of copies of Grit to get those.

Hey!

I'm saving for the bike. Only 9,883 more copies to go!

I'm still wondering if this will end up being a Trax that will be tied (sync-wise) to an out-of-print DVD come this November....

The theatrical versions of LotR are still in stores, despite the Extended versions' existence. Same with Watchmen, Punisher, Daredevil, Elektra, Kingdom of Heaven, and every other DC'd title I could think of. Some folks (probably the majority of them) just don't care about the extras.
In fact, the only movie I know of where they intentionally released *only* the Director's Cut was Oliver Stone's Alexander.

When reading the one for Avatar, I wondered to myself if it was particularly scathing.  I shrugged it off for the reason you gave.  But someone else bringing it up kinda makes me feel a tad more validated.  Perhaps it was the part where they implied comparisons to "anal leakage" that it became a bit much.  I know it isn't a direct comparison, but when you describe the faults of something and "anal leakage" comes into the conversation, one can't help but make a connection.  On the surface, it seems like every other description... but this felt slightly more acerbic (again, just to me anyway; strictly my personal reaction).

I'll be skipping this one simply to keep my $1 away from Cameron.  Since I know he thinks I'm an a-hole deserving of derision I'll do him the favor of not watching his movie.  That way everyone walks away happy.

This is not an abnormal opinion.  I enjoyed watching Avatar in the theater.  It brought a new technology to the forefront in a very impressive way.  Was it a riffable movie?  of course it was.  was it insanely popular?  of course it was.  Will the riff be funny?  Of course it will.

MartyS (Gromit)

I can't wait for this one, the movie is so riffable.

I think it was Colbert that recently ripped on Clash of the Titans, saying something like it was shot in 2D, then they converted it to 3D, but the characters stayed 1D...  Made me think of Avatar right away.  ;D

I don't see how people can claim it's "preachy", the plot is too lame to be taken seriously, making most of the characters 1D and laughable really takes away from any message they were supposed  to be sending.

It should look great on Blu-Ray, the Rifftrax will be my excuse for getting the BD/DVD set.

I still don't get the Cameron haters, he made a typical summer blockbuster, a mindless fun ride, it's not like he's the only one doing that.

I've found it pretty tough to find the theatrical cut of Daredevil in real stores. (Interweb's a different story, of course.)

I'll wait for the reviews to come in before I buy the Avatar Riff for that very reason. I'm not interested in two and a half hours of three witty, otherwise intelligent grown men whining about CGI, like in the Phantom Menace Riff. You might as well complain that there's too many drawings in Snow White.

That's exactly what I was trying to say too.  Before I got chastised for talking about something that hadn't been released yet based solely on it's product description.  (Which is sort of the point of a product description, isn't it?.  To make people decide if they want your product?)

I understand having pride in your work and taking offense when people react negatively to it, but relax.  I like Rifftrax, have bought a ton of them, and went to both live Fathom shows.  I'm a fan of the product.  I'll likely buy this one as well.

And it's not like Avatar's not going to sell a bunch, regardless of what yobs like me have to say.   :P

It is adorable that you think he even knows money comes in so small an increment.

Are you a believer in miracles?  Fuckin' magnets Redbox, how do they work?

Can't take all the credit for the image.  Swiped the original from the What's That Noise thread, just added the quote and Redbox.  CaptainRAD posted the original version.  I just altered it for my own twisted pleasure.  ;D
