What's the last movie you saw without knowing anything about it?

I just read this article about seeing movies without any prior knowledge of its content, and I thought it would make a good topic.  This is something that I LOVE to do whenever I can.  There's nothing like seeing a movie that hasn't been spoiled by the trailer.  I have a love/hate relationship with movie trailers.  While I love to know what's coming out, I hate to have any sort of spoiler.  I have seriously been known to cover my ears and close my eyes when the trailers com on at the movie theater.

So let's hear it.  What was the last movie you saw or your favorite experience where you had just basic information about the movie?

Probably District 9. All I knew was that it was about discrimination against aliens, and a lot of people liked it.

Doctor Who?

Dick Tracy had never seen one second of it before but the action figures were big news when I was a kid, still I didn't know anything about the movie.  I ended up liking it.

I'd have to say that my best experience doing this was Moon.  I saw it at Sundance, and all I knew was that it had Sam Rockwell in it.  Since there are major plot turns in the first act, that is the only way to watch it.  I would guess that it's a totally different experience if you know anything about it to begin with.  But because of this experience (and I think a lot has to do with the experience) Moon was probably my favorite movie of the last few years.

Moon and 9. Both turned out well.

Moon didn't get a whole lot of attention, so I didn't know much about it at all, but I was pretty blown away. What a great movie.
VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

I am in complete lock down for Inception.  I won't watch a trailer at all.  The only thing I know is that it was directed by Chris Nolan, it has Leo (meh), and there's something about a rotating room.

Don't worry, the trailer just sheds less light on the plot. Nolan's keeping this one so close to his vest, I'm worried there's not much to it.

I think it would have been Bright Star.  Sometimes I'll go to the multiplex without knowing what movie I'm gonna see.  I'll just pick one that I haven't seen at random from whatever is about to start in the next few minutes.

I think I had seen the poster for the movie at the theater in the weeks leading up to it's release, but other than that I didn't really know much about it.

I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Surprisingly often.  At work I'm usually lumbered with the films that no-one else wants to see, as I have a "as long as I'm getting paid and I'll have to watch it eventually anyway" view.  I saw Perrier's Bounty the other day, which turned out to be an Irish noir-tinged comedy along the lines of In Bruges.  Not as good, but still quite entertaining.

You get paid to watch movies?  This might be common knowledge, but what do you do?

Cinema projectionist.  Same as gbeenie.  I think there's a couple of others around here too.

Have I mentioned how much I envy you recently? I feel the need to reinforce it.

Anyway, I find myself doing this more and more, going into a movie knowing next to nothing about it. I'm normally one to devour through trailers and early info, but every now and again I'll go into a movie knowing only the title and what the poster looks like. I've yet to be anything other than pleasantly surprised (most recent case was Secret of Kells, which was excellent).

You poor bastard, to envy me.  :)

This kind of nonsense is how The Dark Knight made so much money. "Hey, is this a sequel or something." "I don't know, but everybody says it's great. And there's a famous dead guy in it."

Typically I at least read a description if it's on TV or Netflix or a DVD. And I don't really go to the movies, so those are the only options. I wouldn't watch something without looking it up because that's just lazy. I'm one of those people who actually looks something up that would take two seconds to look up.

I can't fathom knowing absolutely nothing about a movie. Unless it's recommended and it has one of those titles that doesn't make sense. Like Cloverfield.

I would rather watch a movie knowing nothing about it, especially if I know and trust the writer and/or director.
