Dark Shadows (2011)

I was thinking about this when I was posting in all those Twilight movie related threads and 'lo and behold I found confirmation for it online! Finally, a movie that will have a properly dark, moody vampire character with better, hopefully well written brooding drama.

I know a lot of you guys hate Johnny Depp, but you have to admit to yourselves he has way more charisma than Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen.

This is only being made because of Twilight so it is just going to be a Twilight clone.  It's not going to be well written if anything it will turn out even worse then Twilight.

I am just saying don't get your hopes up.  If it is coming out in 2011 and they are only just announcing it chances are it is a cash in and cash ins rarely turn out to be good movies.

We talked about this a long time ago....

In a recent interview I read with Johnny Depp, it was mentioned in relation to another Pirates sequel - and why he was signing on when no one else is - and that he hopes that doing that won't screw up his finally doing Dark Shadows.

After his bastardization of PotA, I'd rather that Burton wasn't involved.  Still, it's possible that the two of them might keep it closer to the original than as a copy of Twilight or - worse - Underworld.

(note: I like the Underworld movies....but I like the original "Dark Shadows" more.)

And like any other "re-imagining" if it will get stuff they've refused to release on DVD - the movies House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows - out there finally, I say go for it.

Depp has been talking about doing this for a year or more.  It's probably only Twilight and the new vampire mania that got the Idiots with the purse strings interested in really doing it.

No.  Only paying more for it than it cost when originally released (which was probably $4) would be wrong.      I'd like to hear it myself, just for laughs.

In truth, Johnny Depp has wanted to make this film for awhile. Thanks to Twilight, this has made it possible. See, Twilight can bring about good things. Hopefully they won't stray too far from the source material because Barnabas Collins' story arc is much more riveting than Edward Cullen's. Whereas Edward is undermined in his romantic pursuits by his own douchebaggery, Barnabas has to deal with a vengeful, jealous sorceress in Angelique. All told, the characters and circumstances of Dark Shadows in their maturity of composition are light years ahead of anything the childish mind of Stephenie Meyer can conjure up.
