I think Kevin Conroy had the best batman voice.

There, I think we have something to agree on.

There are some times I think the voice works, and other times it doesn't.  When Batman is yelling in anger "Where were the drugs going" and "where are they" and so forth, it seems okay.  What doesn't work is when he has longer lines.  He shouldn't have had a conversation with the Joker in which he had to stop and take a breath every three to five words because he was growling "this city just show you...that it's full of people...ready to believe in good..." and disguising his voice at all to talk to Lucius Fox was unnecessary for obvious reasons (though it made for a great Mike and Kevin skit)

It's watching those scenes that really make me appreciate Micheal Keaton in the role, and how he actually made Batman talk quietly.

That's a really good point and I hadn't given it any thought but that voice wouldn't have seemed so over-the-top if he had only used it when he was pissed. It would have been way more powerful, not to mention less distracting during moments when he wasn't all filled with bat rage.

I always thought he adopted the voice as a part of the whole "I have to become what I fear most" thing.

Because when he was young, Alfred told that him if he didn't pick up his toys a raspy-voiced ghost would visit him in the night and pelt him with English food. Little Bruce didn't believe him, and, well, to this day he has an irrational fear of sheperd's pie and will hide in the bathroom if Alfred happens to have a cold.

Well, that's the impression I got, at least. I might be reading a bit too far between the lines.

....Christian Bale (he's the guy who plays Batman, probably best known for his role in Equilibrium).....

???  Better known than for American Psycho or even Empire of the Sun?

Equilibrium is a pimple on the butt of motion picture history. A lot of people have never even heard of it.....

Maybe we really do need a sarcasm smiley badly....   I don't know.  That sentence just seemed too sincere....

I for one would be happy to ditch Bale.  His Bruce Wayne comes off as a jerk and he has given batman the stupidest voice in the history of movies.  Really I watched The Dark Knight a few weeks ago and I could not hold in the laughter every time he talked.  I really think they need to either force him to change the voice or leave.  That voice is turning Batman into as big a joke as he was after the Adam West series and Batman and Robin.  Really I hate to say it because the rest of the movies have been so good but on rewatching that voice has come verry close to sinking both of the last two movies for me.  Does anyone else feel this way or am I just a freak?

I agree. There were more than a few giggles at growling Batman in the theater the first time I saw The Dark Knight. Okay, quite a few were from me, but not all. Was Christian Bale even in The Dark Knight? I love the movie, bit it feels like Bale's trying his best to fade into the scenery when he's playing Bruce, and then growling like a death metal frontman as Batman. I wouldn't miss him at all.

I'm not even going to try handicapping who'll be the villain in Nolan's next Batman movie, but I will speculate on what could come after. After part 3 fails to live up to the huge expectations set by The Dark Knight, Nolan will take his dumptruck full of cash, say "I told you so," and leave the franchise. Rather than try to continue in, let's call it the Nolanverse, I'd turn the Batman franchise into an anthology. A variety of filmmakers could bring their own twists and sensibilities to a movie or two, with new actors as Bruce, Gordon, et cetera. It would be a lot like the comics in this way, with creators bringing their own twists to the endlessly malleable world of Gotham. In this way, Warner Brothers could churn out Batman movies ad infinitum, all without raising the audience-pissing-off-spectre of reboots. What do you think, sirs?

So, you'd like to see essentially Batman as James Bond.

Holy crap, that's awesome!

Seriously, though, I agree with you, but I'd rather wait a few years for a good movie then have one good movie followed by a bunch of crappy ones, much like the James Bond series does whenever it gets a new actor.
I like artificial grape flavor, but I hate real grapes.  A paradox!?

Yes, it was a joke. And a failed one at that.  :(

I knew I should have gone with Newsies or Pocahontas.

I will plead total ignorance of the animated Batman and the voice work done there.

But I do know that Bale is the best actor to do Batman and I enjoy his movies a lot.

Next time Batman movies get reset (and you know it'll happen, in three years, ten years, maybe fifteen) I want the next version to look like the Arkham Asylum game.  It had both classic elements and a modern enough touch.  Not saying I want this series over with, just looking to when it runs its course.

Hopefully, everybody has the sense to end this series as a trilogy. The longer a franchise drags on, the greater the chance it will be run into the ground.

But this is Hollywood, and they'll milk, milk, milk until they've got nothing but bone.

Doctor Who?

Then again some of the best Rifftrax are from franchises that have been run into the ground and Superman 4 and the death wish sequels are a hoot for the low budget insanity so who are we to complain about a franchise being run into the ground. ;D

Yeah, the fact that Batman 3 will probably make a bajillion dollars is a great incentive for WB to keep on with the movies.  Even if they ditch Bale and Nolan, they'll try and do it.

And I'll most likely pretend it doesn't exist, like I would have if Bryan Singer left the X-Men franchise and they let some hack direct a third installment.

Good thing there were only 2 X-Men movies, huh? Yep, good thing they stopped there. Ha! Hahaha! (Is there a smiley for "I'm totally off my rocker"?)
