QuoteThe first titles to be made available from Roger Corman's Cult Classics presented by Shout! Factory are the much anticipated cult thrillers Piranha Special Edition DVD, Humanoids From The Deep, Up From The Depths and Demon Of Paradise in April 2010; Piranha Special Edition Blu-ray, the memorable 1979 classic Rock 'N' Roll High School Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray and the punk rock drama Suburbia in May 2010. Other Corman classics slated for 2010 release include Death Race 2000, Warlords Of The 21st Century, Deathsport, Forbidden World and Galaxy Of Terror, among others.

I hope Rifftrax does Death Race 2000 now that it will be widely available, even though it isn't exactly kid-friendly (but then again, they did do The Room, which isn't even human-friendly)
The full list of films they bought doesn't seem to be available, but we can only hope a few MST3K episodes are on there.

Considering that some of those titles aren't widely available, and some are on DVD but have terrible transfers, so their release is a pretty cool thing.  And a couple of those movies are actually good! :)

MrTorso

Yeah hopefully they will re-do these from the ground up. Most of them were released twice on dvd before and both times they were exactly the same the only difference was the studio doing the releasing.

Well considering that there will be Blu Ray releases I imagine they will be cleaned up a bit.

Why? The DVDs weren't.

Well, Shout! seems to be pretty cool when it comes to DVD releases, in terms of the quality of their prints.  I think there's hope that we'll get a sparkling transfer of Galaxy of Terror, which the Rifftrax guys should immediately riff on.  It's sooooo worthy.

Well, people expect a little bit more quality when they get a Blu Ray. I don't know how Shout typically treats their releases, but if they're going to bother putting it on Blu, I would think they would try doing it right.

Has Shout! released any Blu-Rays yet?
Looks like they have seven available. No idea on their quality, and the reviews on Amazon are no help.

Wow, mentioning Roger Corman movies without people arguing over the merit of his films..... I think we have all grown over the years.

MrTorso

As long as I finally get a DVD of Rock N' Roll high school that looks better than my Japanese Laserdisc I will be happy. That flick was released 3 times on dvd and not a single one was anamorphic.

QuoteShout! Factory and New Horizons Pictures are working closely to remaster a number of great Corman titles that have been long out of print, some never-before-available on DVD and Blu-ray™

I guess I skipped over that part. So they will be remastered.

Isn't there just something odd about spending more time, money and effort in "restoring" than was done for the whole making of the film? Especially of something by Corman? I know he has his fans, but are people going to be wiling to spend money (ie 15-20 bucks) for a movie they just enjoy ironically?

*perusing ebay*

Nevermind. I just answered my question.

It is not like Corman wrote and directed all the films himself.

The first film on the list, Piranha was done by Joe Dante and was written by John Sayles who was nominated for an Oscar a couple of times.  In fact none of the films on the list were written or directed by Corman at all.

Gabba gabba hey! Two hugely popular Roger Corman rock films that have long been out of print will hit the home-entertainment shelves on May 4, 2010: the Rock 'N' Roll High School 30th Anniversary Special Edition DVD and Suburbia Collector's Edition DVD, the first two titles launching the highly anticipated Roger Corman's Cult Classics home entertainment series from Shout! Factory. Newly remastered and available for the first time in Anamorphic widescreen (16:9), Rock 'N' Roll High School Special Edition and Suburbia Collector's Edition provide the outrageous candor of teenage angst and nostalgic reverie of a counterculture rock movement that captured the hearts of many generations.
