You got Weird Al... And DIDN'T sing a song???

I know it's not just me, everyone I know was expecting at least one song with Al.
The short was okay, but it almost felt like it should have been a warm-up to another one, Al barely had time to get into the groove.

And sadly, I know several people who went mostly because of Weird Al. Personally, I'm not really upset or anything, I'm all about the gruesome threesome, I just feel like an opportunity was missed. They had Weird-freakin-Al and didn't do one song??!! They had a couple songs at the last live show and not for this one??!! When they had Weird-freakin-Al??? I feel like they should have done a little more there. But for those who largely came for Al, many of them are quite disappointed. I understand he was a guest and so did most people, but I'm pretty sure everyone expected at least one song, and some will feel a bit gypped. As I said, I'm not upset, I loved it and had tons of fun, my cheeks hurt from laughing and I couldn't have gone on much longer. But... ach. Not one song???

btw, no one in my group caught the download code, nor any of the random people we asked around. Whenever they showed it, few (none?) seem to have caught it.

yeahsonic

I agree, Lazarus. I think Weird Al should have been more involved in the show. He was great in the "Jurassic Park" commentary, and he just seems like a perfect fit with the guys. I'm secretly hoping that maybe he'll do a project with the RiffTones!

That said, it was a supremely funny show and I can't wait to buy it on DVD in the near future.

I saw it for a split second at the beginning of the "gift exchange skit" and wasn't 100% sure I remembered it right...so I asked three groups of people before I found someone who said that yeah, that's what they saw, too.   Thing is, the others acted like they didn't know what I was talking about....do so many people go to these and not care about the downloads?

But I just tried it and got the "404" page...so either it's not up and running or I did remember it wrong?   :'(

BTW....I got there at 8:02 and walked in...they were halfway through a short...  Here I wasn't sweating being a little late because I figured all I'd miss was the introductions....

I agree.  How do you have Weird Al on a Christmas show and NOT have him do "The Night Santa Went Crazy"?  Still loved the show and will buy it on DVD but more Al would've been appreciated.

Darth Geek

Having him sing (with Mike, Kevin and Bill accompaniment) would have been great. But I was just glad to see him back. Hope he does more movie riffing in the near future.

I can't believe Al didn't do a song.  I was very shocked he didn't.  But maybe there are writing issues if he writes with his band and he'd have to cut them in on his take if he sang a song.  There must be a good reason for it.

Whew!  I just got the same page so I assumed I remembered it wrong.  But with it happening to you too I assume it's just website problems.

Overhead, probably....   Would have had to have the band there....all those salaries.  Would have driven up the ticket price.  Don't think Al performs just him and his accordion anymore.

Just wish they could have avoided the whole "I'm a vegetarian" thing for a lead in though....  That's great if he is now but "My Bolgona", "Taco Grande", the foods mentioned in "Eat It" and "Fat",  the Twinkie Weiner sandwich in UHF.....it's not like he hasn't made exceptions before.

Well, I found out that I was using the wrong second half of the phrase...

I agree, Weird Al's presence kinda felt like a publicity stunt. I get that spreading the riffs 4 ways is tough, but I think everyone expected him to lead the Rifftones in a new future holiday classic. Those four heads put together could have given us another "Patrick Swayze Christmas."

All in all, a fine way to spend a night out, though.

Yea, someon could have went to get their coke refilled and missed the Weird Al part. It was a good bit but with nothing else it felt really lacking. But as they say .......... (I really can't think of anything that can help sorry.)

And it was Weird Al as one of four riffers on a Short....

BTW, wish I had a shot of him in his "box in the corner" (him in the spotlight...).....because I'd have a "Separated at Birth" for you....

Although I don't think anyone would like it....   :-\

Come on, you can't tease us like that. Alanis Morisette, maybe?

MPF

I was totally expecting him to bust out the accordion and give us a tune or two, but I'm not entirely disappointed - it was incredibly amusing to get to talk to Bill, with Weird Al sitting next to you being almost completely ignored in favor of the rifftrax guys.

Well yes when you got to see the 4 of them shoved into the right of the screen, that was great. And while waiting before the movie they did play one of my favorite of his songs. "Everything you know is wrong."

About halfway through the song, my girlfriend asked me if it was Jonathan Coulton. Everything old is new again. (I had a bootleg audiotape copy of Bad Hair Day way back when. Ah memories...)

ShadowDog

Yeah, even earlier they played Weird Al's Hardware Store song, which is my personal favorite.  So that was sweet.
