10. The Neverending Story 2 (ah yes, the sequel....lower budget, lesser costumes, new less talented Atreyu, an anorexic Falcor, the Philadelphia Eagles mascot/villain, hell I think the new book was printed on recycled paper, yes after this painful performance thankfully the Neverending Story comes to an end...as does my list)

Ah but there was a third one...not that it really counts since I'm pretty sure it went direct to video and only like three people saw it.
Wow.  Who are the other 2?   ;)  I saw this when it came on tv (I think it was made-for-tv).  It's one of those "Wow... I'll never get that time back" kinda movies.  Tho it probably will be best remembered for Jack Black (before he was Jack Black) as a bully who gets roundhouse kicked by Bastion at the end.

(This is actually a riff for the first film, but it's worth checking out.)

Oh, it counts alright. Don't forget that The Neverending Story "trilogy" also spawned not one, but two TV shows. The first one was animated and the second one was live action.  It's not over either. There's a remake in development that's supposed to be coming out in 2012.

I wonder if the new one will try and adapt the whole book. Out of all the movies only the first one came close to the tone and quality of the book, and it stopped roughly halfway through the story. The second one tried to incorporate elements of the second half, but instead of focussing on the internal struggle of Bastian they tried to recreate the intangible struggle against the nothing with a different name and they also waited too long. The second part should have been set immediately after the first. The first lesson of the story is to hold onto fantasy and don't let it fade from your life, but the second lesson is the danger of fantasy and how you can lose yourself entirely in it. The first movie did a great job with that first lesson. The second movie was a lame attempt at that second lesson. The third movie...I'm thinking was about the importance of drug money. Haven't seen the tv versions to judge them.

I appreciate that, Doctor. But let me ask you. In all your fail-safe techniques, is there a provision for an attack by killer bees?

:D :D It is a good riff, though.
Well, it is Quiptracks, so that goes mostly without saying.

THE CORE!!! Forgot that one. A real guilty pleasure of mine - and later has me thinking why travel all the way to Pandora for Unobtanium when some cranky scientist in the desert can make it  ;D
