RVR II

What kills me is that a script was written and approved by more than one person. Apparently racial stereotypes (and yes... it did come off as extremely racist... even if it was unintentional), farting robots (on more than one occasion), ball sucking jokes, dangling ball jokes, dog humping, robot humping, and taking a giant crap votes were approved. Not to mention the most neurotically annoying mom ever to grace any movie screen!  I'm okay with all of these things... south park do them quite frequently, but michael bay presents these jokes in the manner of a three year old. Rather than making you laugh, his stuff just comes off as uncomfortably awkward.  One moment we're suppose to feel sad for a character and the next we see something humping a girl's leg. Its comedy at its worst. I hate to say it.... by I was extremely happy to see Megan Fox. At least she was pleasant to look at and her underacting was far more pleasing than everyone else's overacting. Even the friggin' voice actors were annoying the hell out of me.

And the Transformers were NEVER about the human characters, yet Stutterin' Sam and his talentless bimbo girlfriend are the main stars of the film.

Note to Mike Bay: NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT SHIA LeBEEF

And since when does Optimus go around ruthlessly murdering  defenseless Decepticons?  Anyone remember THAT from the cartoon?

Russell

I think Michael Bay is definitely a bad director, and he needs some schooling. However, I think the biggest problem with the film is that it needed some serious editing. I think that would have made it better.

Should have put it through a document shredder, IMHO.

Funny, I was going to say that the only thing I did enjoy was some of the voice acting. Mostly Tom Kenny.

Editing as in cutting out deathly unfunny comedy relief? That would take probably 20 minutes off the overall runtime and it would still be a mediocre movie because the action scenes aren't that great.

Optimus Prime and Megatron sounded pretty badass, but honestly the rest of it seemed pretty lazy. The big decepticon satellite thing's voice in particular was just some guy doing a Dr. Claw impression.

I'll agree with you on that one... but I expected those two to sound good. It was the supporting cast which we heard WAY too much of that drove me nuts.

I'm Still FURIOUS about how much effort (many of us) had to put into reauthoring this Piece of ShIt!!! :grr:
This was Definitly Not Worth all that 'finagling' to prevent pirating..
Seriously! Who in the F@ck really wanted to copy this for their own amusement ???

Even if it concentrated on the robots more, you still have the significant problem of not being able to tell robots apart (Seriously, Starscream and Megatron in particular are each made up of a million parts, all the same color and share several scenes together. Who thought that was a good idea?). Even when I could tell them apart, it was a deduction process to figure out what part was what (well he looks like he's punching, so that must be his arm...), which did not allow me to just sit back and enjoy the mayhem. I know everybody complains about Devastator's balls, but at least I could tell what they were (and for the record, I thought it was hilarious).

I still think Megatron sounds like The Tall Man from Phantasm. Listen to him when he says "boy".

I might have thought it was funnier if  John Turturro hadn't then said "Hey! Balls! Get it!? The robot has balls!".

You mean you didn't just download it off a newsgroup? Maybe I shouldn't have said that. Heh.

That's pretty badass in itself, actually.

Yes it is childish at times, but I don't expect Citizen Kane from it. It is giant robots fighting. I get what I expect..

I am so incredibly sick of that excuse. Where does that line of reasoning end? Catwoman? Manos?
Yeah, that is a terrible excuse. It is a movie about fighting robots, so ANYONE directing this would have had that. The key here is the horribly overcomplicated designs, the retarded humor and the overabundance of human characters we don't care about. A better filmmaker would have had giant robots fighting, and it would have been a better movie. Everyone who liked the current movies would have been happy, too.

The problem with Michael Bay's success, is that he makes terrible movies that are bound to be successful regardless of their quality, simply because of their concept. An action movie with lots of expensive effects? That's the easiest thing for Hollywood to sell.

I'm mostly annoyed that the fight scenes themselves are rather dull. With so much choppy editing, 2 second shots, and identical looking robots it's hard enough to get a bead on what's going on, and when you do it's nothing special. Just army shooting in one direction, robots shooting in another, and then planes bombing everything for some reason (I think. Wasn't totally sure what they were doing there to begin with, actually). Came off more... generic, than anything else. Expensive looking and shiny, but still generic.

I would now like to say, completely unrelated to the above, that I thought the joke about the frat guy's response about finding a tighter shirt was pretty funny.

Not only are the robots generally visually indistinguishable, they didn't have any personalities either. Even if you could tell them apart it wouldn't matter because most of them don't have a single line of dialogue that makes them anything but flat, generic cannon fodder.

I grew up watching transformers and my wife kept asking me, "who is that guy?" I just shrugged and told her I'm not sure. Shouldn't the characters at least be recognizable by the geeky audience? One thing that annoyed me was the stupid transforming cane the old transformer had. There is absolutely no room for subtlety in the movie.

Despite everything retarded... there were a couple throwback references I enjoyed. It's too bad he didn't stick to the basics of the old series and lost the bathroom humor. The stupid shar/energy/exploding sun thing really made no sense. Before this movie came out I remember michael bay stating in an interview its a very dark and serious movie. I guess to him... this is a dramatic movie! I sure hope he doesn't try making the next one into a comedy.
