I'll admit, I haven't seen this one yet; I'm actually too nervous to see it. The thing with scary movies and me is that I'm usually fine in the theatre and then when I get home and go to bed, that's when the effects really set in.

But I always admire a low-budget film when it becomes a hit, it gives hope to the rest of us film students.

Thoughts by anyone who has actually seen it?
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

I'm kinda curious about this movie, tbh. It looks like it's composed of (fake) footage TAPS would die for to catch for reals.

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

Well, they're going to release this nationwide because they got their 1 million demands on the web.....

Like they weren't going to release it anyway even if they had to fake that a million demands came in.

I loved Blair Witch Project, and from what I've heard about Paranormal Activity is that it's very much in that vein.

Apparently the director is moving on to a similar, bigger budgeted movie about Area 51.

I haven't seen a scarier movie yet (and I take pride in how many horror movies I've seen). Freaked me out so much in the theater I couldn't fall asleep until the sun came up. Does it all in really easy ways, too. Things going bump in the night, doors that open and close on their own, lights flickering, bed sheets moving... doesn't sound like much, but trust me, it works.

Blair Witch is the easiest comparison to make, but it does have some differences. Camera doesn't swing around nearly as much, so you can always tell what's happening. No shrill-sounding characters (though one is definitely a douchbag). And it doesn't pretend to be based on a true story, which I think is nice. If it can make itself seem real even when it's definitely fake, then it's a very effective movie.

I made a trek to see this back when it was just in 13 theaters. Very glad to see interest has been so high that it's going around the country. Pretty much all through word-of-mouth too, which is very nice to see these days.

I personally haven't seen it, but I voted for it to be a nationwide release.  Hopefully, this low-budget creep-fest will make it to theaters around the country.

It goes wide on Friday, and either goes wider on the 23rd or gets all it's theaters in this Friday.

Made the top 5 in the BO this weekend.  On 159 screens with an average of something $44,000 per screen.  That's....amazing.

carlobee

i'm kind of excited to watch this one too! ;D

That's the horror community trying to make amends for ditching Drag Me To Hell.

I want to see this but movies in this vein seem to stick in my head and bother me for a couple of weeks. The Grudge messed me up for a couple of days after seeing it.  As someone that tries to live out my life rationally, my irrational fear of the dark after seeing movies like these sometimes bugs the ever-loving hell out of me.

After I saw The Ring for the first time, I couldn't fall asleep in my own room because I had a TV in there. I went and slept on the floor in my parents bedroom (high schooler at the time), which I hadn't done since I was nine.

Now, living on my own, the possibilities of my freaking out after seeing Paranormal Activity are endless!

I had the same problem. It really was a devious movie to make people afraid of an object that is the centerpiece of the most lived-in rooms of their  houses.

Well, this movie might do the same thing for hallways, bedrooms, bedsheets, and suburban starter homes. Just a heads up :P

I haven't been really scared by a horror movie in a long time. I'll have to find time to go see this.
