Oh and people writing, for example, "the 60's" what possession of 60 are you referring to? Aberrant Apostrophes must be eradicated.

Irregardless!  GAH!  *gets really pissed off and stomps all over Tokyo*

I notice the unnecessary apostrophes all the time, too.  Like, "We sell CD's and DVD's!"  Ugh.

Holy Crap Weasels!  I just found out that my word processor doesn't recognize "irregardless" as a misspelling (meaning it recognizes it as a legitimate word)!  This makes me very, very sad, and not necessarily because I'm too poor to go out and purchase a better word processor.

My wife has it worse, it will stop her dead in her tracks with fury when she see it. Target is an especially heinous offender.

Actually what a wordprocessor recognizes or doesn't tells you a whole lot about it's programmers.

Obscure Greek mythological figures pass Word's filters much easier than obscure Roman mythological figures.

Oh and my email program will often suggest "Oprah" as an alternative for a word it doesn't recognise.

I use a free word processor called "Rough Draft," because, even though it accepts words like "irregardless" as legit, it is still better than WordPerfect (which came bundled with my Dell notebook).

Oprah, huh?  Better than "Maury," I suppose.

wow did this thread ever get derailed :)

well, I'll defend both irregardless and DVD's / 90's

The first IS a word (although it shares the EXACT same definition as regardless)
and the second is more esthetically pleasing (not to mention something of a standard).

Am I the only one here that thinks its funner (;) ) to say "irregardless"?

Less of the semantics and more with the faces people!  ;)

No, it doesn't the prefix "ir" and suffix "less" both negate the word they are attached to. Hence they cancel each other out;if something is ir-rgardless it is full of regard. If something is irregad-less is is missing irregand (which isn't a word but there we go). Incidentally the post-literates who put together the Firefox word processor are also ignorant of this fact.

Be that as it may it isn't the correct use of an apostrophe, though in the case of 60's it's a development from a correct use that of '60 to mean (19)60.

But back on topic, nuveena got any pics with your real hair in them?

I'm posting a picture on behalf of my new puppy, Remington J. Nugent. He's a pointer mix that chases butterflies and was afraid of stairs for 3 days.

That's a cling-free sheet he's chewing on.

Hey man, that is one cute dog, mind if I watch it for a few days?
