If in 3D, please be actually filmed in 3D instead of shoddily converted to 3D in order to charge more money...

That would require forethought and integrity, neither of which Hollywood can afford.

And besides, the average moviegoer doesn't know zip about the production process and probably couldn't tell the difference. Which the studios know.

*sigh* Ah well. With all the money I'll save not going to the theater I could probably buy a blu-ray player, which I've been meaning to do.

The average moviegoer will hopefully see the difference with Clash of the Titans after so many of them have already seen Avatar, start asking questions why the 3D is crappy by comparison, and start voting with their wallets.

One would hope, but the problem is the average moviegoer does not know what experience they are getting walking into the theater. They do not know if it was filmed in 3D or was converted just before release, because they do not care.

You and me, man, we're goddamned connoisseurs. We'll follow a movie through it's development, months and maybe even years before it's released, and know everyone involved in its creation: actors, director, producers, studio, maybe even the script writer and who arranged the score, because that's important to us. The average Joe will know the name of the movie (hopefully) from the commercial he saw during primetime, and wouldn't know who James Cameron was if the man rang his doorbell and punched him in the face (which I like to imagine Cameron does at times).

They'll see a difference after they pay $15 for a ticket, but will they ask for a refund? Doubt it. Will it keep them from ever seeing a 3D movie again? No, because movies are fun, even the "bad" ones (which is how they make enough money to keep churning out crap). If the studio thinks they can cover the cost to make a movie and some tasty profit, they'll do it; and if they can afford to spend an extra $30 mil slathering lipstick on their hog to justify charging an extra 2-3 bucks per ticket (which will make it much, much easier for them to cover costs), why the hell not?

That's my Hollywood apocalypse, anyhow. It just makes too much sense to convert these films to 3D when you can charge more to the same audience who isn't bound to get wise to your scheme. It's like throwing in a toy with a happy meal.

Let's hope they make this Godzilla film right.
"Hey, you kids! Those boxes are for shipping! Not for creating a world of pure imagination!"

You know what bugs me? When I hear someone say something like "Did you hear they're making an A-Team movie/new Godzilla movie/remaking Clash Of The Titans?" after they've just seen an ad on TV or a trailer or poster or whatever. Um, yeah, they made it, like, a year ago. Notice how you can see some of it in the commercial? I know not everyone follows these things, but just think about what you're saying for half a second.

You're making a good point.

The article's addendum says this isn't the design - but fuck, if he looks like that, I'm in.

You know that the first movie has to be about Godzilla vs. man and his machines....and man almost loses.  Besides, they need the other movies to go to the sequels.

Nobody EVER gives a crap about any of the human characters! Not the annoying little kids with upsetting shorts (and apparently Top Secret security clearance). Not the useless psychic girls. Not the grandpa scientists. Not the generic military guys. Not the politicians. Imagine how cool this movie would be if we never left the Godzilla sized viepoint. The giant monsters are always "regular sized" and the humans are all tiny ants. We never show them close up, just their military tanks and planes start to attack once Godzilla shows up.

You know that.  And I know that....

Although that one crappy film with the picked on kid that kept going to Monster Island to talk to Godzilla's son was kind of like that in parts....and that blew chunks.   ;)

I guess no one started caring for the human characters with the second Godzilla movie, 'cause the humans' story in the original movie (at least, the actual original Japanese cut) is pretty damned engaging and powerful (that scene where Dr. Serizawa listens to the choir is haunting...)
