This is big news for DC fans: Angela Bassett is playing Amanda Waller. If you're familiar with that character you just got very excited. For the rest of you I'll just say that it's like Sam Jackson showing up as Nick Fury in Iron Man.

(Apparently, Pam Grier is also playing Amanda Waller on Smallville. But it's Smallville, so nobody cares.)

Eh... I like that Waller will be in the movie but the casting of Angela Bassett is a VERY bad sign.  This to me signals the "she's too fat, let's make her sexier" sort of casting decision.  And that kind of thnking ends up with a Gwen Stacy that doesn't die and a bastard Superkid.  Amanda Waller would be ideally cast with Mo'Nique.

Yeah, who would take Mo'Nique seriously as a tough-as-nails covert government bitch? Anyway, have you seen Angela Bassett? She's not fat, but she's built like a brickhouse. Seems perfect to me. Waller would lose all credibility if she waddled into a scene.

I would have said Mo'Nique was wrong for the role too until she played a hardass crazy mom in Precious. I didn't see that 21st century Blacksploitation movie but I hear her performance was good.

I don't get this thinking in the slightest. Angela Bassett is an AMAZING actress (and anything that keeps her away from having to be in more Tyler Perry movies is a good thing, in my book). By contrast, Mo'Nique has, at last count, had exactly ONE good movie role (until Precious, her entire film oeuvre consisted of DEEPLY terrible comedies).
